Title: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: WayAbvPar on July 15, 2005, 08:57:55 AM Hi all-
I know there are a lot of you who will be picking this up over the weekend. For those of us who won't be reading it right away (I am letting my wife read our copy first- she is all atingle with anticipation), let's keep discussion of it in one thread. Any spoilers posted in any other threads will get deleted if I see them, and I do my level best to make your life miserable :x If you don't want to be spoiled, do not read this thread after midnight tonight. Thanks for your cooperation. Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: stray on July 15, 2005, 09:01:28 AM I'm sorry, but this is getting way out of hand.
It's just a BOOK people. :| :-P Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: Strazos on July 15, 2005, 09:02:33 AM I never have, and never will, read or view anything relating to Harry Potter...
Except the one skit on SNL featuring Lindsey Lohan. Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: Merusk on July 15, 2005, 09:04:13 AM I'm going to have to steal this from my wife. She reads MUCH slower than I do, so I'll have to wait a month or so to read it if I don't. That said, It's a good year for books. Feast of Crows is due out in November and a new Harry Potter. Whoopie and all.
Yeah it's just a book, but it's a fun series. We're not advocating going out and dressing as wizards and such, are we? No, Way's just trying to keep further discussion contained in one thread. Makes sense to me. P.s.: Strazos reads? Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: stray on July 15, 2005, 09:11:47 AM Just to clarify, I'm just making a joke about this:
http://www.vaildaily.com/article/20050714/AE/107140031 Quote "It's very, very important you abide by the guidelines," Magistro said. "They're under very tight security. We're not even allowed to open the boxes until midnight. You wouldn't believe what a secure operation this is. The UPS drivers, the truckers - everybody has to sign affidavits." http://www.newindpress.com/sunday/sundayitems.asp?id=SEB20050701045044&eTitle=Books+%26+Literature&rLink=0 Quote The cartons of books, once shipped to India, will arrive at distributors’ warehouses accompanied by gun-toting security guards, who have been instructed to not let the shipments out of their sight. Quote One worker, who spoke anonymously to The Age, said: “Two guards are positioned permanently in the space dividing the book-binding department from the printing presses. It has stopped short of body searches so far, but who knows, they check everything else. There is even a guard on the giant shredders that destroy pages that have errors.” Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: Strazos on July 15, 2005, 09:12:56 AM P.s.: Strazos reads? Heh, yeah...kind of the nature of my major. The last book I had to read that I actually enjoyed. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0394722744/qid=1121443702/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-5828250-2094419?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) A book that made me want to stab myself. Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: schild on July 15, 2005, 09:18:12 AM Books assigned by school don't count as reading. No one cares how you spent your summer vacation.
Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: Signe on July 15, 2005, 09:31:24 AM I wouldn't discuss what happens in a Harry Potter book, anyway. It's a personal experience.

The M.J. Morning Show over at 93.3 WFLZ planned to raffle 10 books off at their studios this morning, but a local distributor found out and sent law enforcement there to stop them. The station went ahead and chose the lucky winners, but the books will have to be sent to them in the mail. I'm glad the cops are out stopping important crimes like this. I've been meaning the read at least the first book, or watch the movies, but now I'm having second thoughts. Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: Samwise on July 15, 2005, 11:30:45 AM Don't. The books are so good that you'll want to read more. Then you'll probably want to buy them so you can read them again. And then they take up all the space on your shelf, so you have to buy another shelf. IT NEVER ENDS! :cthulu:

Rowling opus, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Jude Ralston, 32, of Hudson, Ohio left a suicide note indicating that since overhearing the plot spoiler at a shopping mall earlier in the day, "I no longer have a reason to live." Family and friends who gathered for a candlelight memorial outside Mr. Ralston's house remembered a man who seemed to live only for Harry Potter – and wondered if they could have done anything to prevent his tragic fate. "When Jude got that vanity license plate that said ‘Hogwarts,' that seemed harmless enough," said Polly Clovis, who attended Model U.N. with Mr. Ralston while the two were in high school. "But when he started wearing that wizard hat around town, we really should have seen that as a cry for help." According to friends of Mr. Ralston, the Potter fanatic had done everything in his power to protect himself from stumbling across Potter plot spoilers, even disconnecting his computer from the Internet and avoiding his favorite vintage comic book store. Ms. Clovis said that she hoped Mr. Ralston's death would cause federal authorities to tighten the flow of Harry Potter plot information to prevent similar tragedies from taking place. "In my heart I believe that could have saved Jude's life, even if he didn't have one," she said. instead of asking "when are you coming home", she said "since you're late anyway, can't you stay till 1 am and pick up the new Harry Potter". What the hell, I thought, might as well make her happy. If they open the doors at 12, I can just waltz in at1 one, pick up a book and grap a cab home. D'oh! Doors open at 1. 300 geeks in front of me... some of them dressed like "wizards" (That is, really ugly goths in pointy hats). I've never stood in a line for a cultural event before.... well, apart from U2 tickets, but they were for my wife too and nobody dressed like Bono. Luckily there's a Scottish pub nearby, I can grab a Guiness and a malt whisky while pretending not to be part of the line. Finally the doors open. There's a tv-crew.... shit, there's a former colleague from the tabloid where I used to work. I decide, that if the camera is on me, when I reach the till, I'm going to ask for a book on gardening and leave... screw the wife, that would look so good on telly. "Harry, who?!" Anyways, now I have the book. The wife is asleep and it's not like I don't like the books. Should I skip bed and read it before her? She'd really hate me for it  Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: schild on July 15, 2005, 06:34:39 PM You worked at a tabloid?

I liked this book a lot. It was probably the best edited, best paced, and most engaging cover-to-cover of the series. Some people in the land of the eternally cranky seemed to hate some of the supposed political commentary and the twist, but it didn't bother me. I liked the end relevation and how it was handled, and I really didn't see the political commentary as anything specific (a generic enough situation to not really warrant further analysis). I have some MINOR issues with the book, but nothing that prevented me from enjoying it. Anyhow, not much else to discuss without going all spoilerific. Edit: That fanfic picture is really repulsive. Quit ruining things for me. I think I'll use my dark powers and get it the fuck off my screen. Could you possibly start a mod-sponsored spoilerific thread? I'm itching to discuss theory. Or something. Absolutely not safe for work. Relatively high quality hardcore porn cartoons. For real, it's not even a little safe for work. And I'm listening. Title: Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Post by: Signe on July 19, 2005, 09:12:00 AM You're not helping!
