Title: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 14, 2005, 11:21:50 AM With all this league talk, it makes me want to try one out...but not with the unwashed masses. It would be pretty fun to have a F13-Exclusive League.
It will even help your self-confidence too, because I suck ass at MtG:O. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Margalis on July 14, 2005, 12:29:23 PM Leagues normally have 256 people in them, I'm not sure if you could do a private one, and BC probably doesn't have enough people to even qualify because you have to play different people in a league I think.
The best strategy would be to coordinate with some people and join the same league together and maybe help each other out a little. Join the league, post the cards you got, and have some people help you make a deck before you start playing. You can also take your deck to the casual room and play someone else that is also in a league to test. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 14, 2005, 05:55:19 PM Or we could just set up an f13 tournament on the boards here and act it out over there.
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 14, 2005, 06:43:44 PM Or we could just set up an f13 tournament on the boards here and act it out over there. We could....I'd really like to do a closed-set league or draft... Ya know, so Schild loses the advantage of owning $34k in cards. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 14, 2005, 07:01:07 PM I have nowhere near the cards of Johnny Cee or Raging turtle. I own a total of 54 rare cards. About 6 per set.
I have maybe 2,000 uncommons total. I have over 2,000 cards up for trade that anyone on the boards can just pick apart as they were donated by other people in Bat Country. If it were appropriate, Straz, I'd post the wahmbulance. But as I explained in the other thread, it isn't appropriate...Yet. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 14, 2005, 07:27:21 PM How does that work? I own 56 rares....
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 14, 2005, 07:28:00 PM I don't keep rares I don't use.
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Margalis on July 14, 2005, 08:57:01 PM I was going to say we could have our own informal sealed deck tourney, but I don't know if that's possible online because once you open your cards they end up mixed in with all your others.
Or, you could enter a league and put your league deck up against other people's league decks in a tourney, that would work since those cards don't get mixed in until the league is done. --- I played one more match with my league deck. I am trying to create decks with a gameplan rather than throwing together some good cards and calling it a day. So my plan here, lame as it was, was to throw out a whole bunch of creatures, use Orochi Egg-Watcher and the green Honden (both produce tokens) and use Junkyo Bell (+x/+x to creature until end of turn, where X is the number of creatures you control, sac target at end of turn) as super-slow "finisher." Amazing I actually won 2 out of 3, just barely. But I'm done until my next booster because the player I played against also had a horrible card pool and I still barely won. The two games I won I had 6-8 creatures out and just threw them at the enemy wall one at a time with +7/+7 or so, wearing down his defenses as I continued to play creatures and collect tokens. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 14, 2005, 09:05:23 PM Here, when 9th Edition comes out, we should do this.
Everyone buys a new account - f13whatever. So f13schild for me. With that money, you get a 9th edition starter deck and some packs. Then, each week, you buy a new pack, and post it in a predesignated thread. You play in the league only on that account. Everyone's cards (not their deck), will be listed in the thread. Everyone who plays buys an extra pack or two or some tickets or offers up a $5 rare or something. Whoever wins gets 75% of the total lottery and second place gets 25%. Of course, this is all just off the cuff, there's probably better ways to refine all of this. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Raging Turtle on July 14, 2005, 09:16:01 PM I'm 95% sure that you can have private 8-man (maybe less) drafts, with no tix and no prizes. I think its an offshoot of the normal Games room. I think you might even be able to set up a sealed deck tourny the same way. I'll check tonight when I get home, maybe they changed it. Private leagues are out though, and kind've pointless after the first day with such a small number of players.
I'd play except my Korean ISP and American credit card don't seem to play well together in the Magic Online Store right now. Trying to get it resolved again (Had the same problem many months ago) but they seem a lot less helpful this time around. I'll be back in the states in a little over a month, and back to normal playing times when I'm on. Anyone in the clan can feel free to ransack my collection of extra commons/uncommons... and I have LOT of extra non-trash cards, - one of the byproducts of being a heavy drafter. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Raging Turtle on July 15, 2005, 04:02:03 AM Start Screen ---> Casual Play ---> Limited Games
Set up any private draft or sealed tourny you like. Pretty cool. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Xilren's Twin on July 15, 2005, 06:30:21 AM Start Screen ---> Casual Play ---> Limited Games Set up any private draft or sealed tourny you like. Pretty cool. That sounds like a plan! And guess what, it's Friday night... Xilren Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 15, 2005, 09:01:15 AM I would be down for some action...
I would just lose, but it should be fun nonetheless. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Margalis on July 15, 2005, 09:40:53 AM I may be able to play today, but I think I told some friends I would go bowling with them. I'll check and see, if I'm around I'll do it. I dig the idea of each person coming in with say a booster pack and then splitting among the winners.
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 15, 2005, 09:43:20 AM Here's the problem with tonight. I'm going to Arizona this weekend. I'll be going to bed in about 6 hours so I can wake up at 2am. Sigh. :-(
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 15, 2005, 09:47:47 AM The question is: Are you driving, or flying?
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 15, 2005, 09:50:21 AM Flying. It's just a 3 day visit.
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 15, 2005, 10:00:49 AM Tough it out and sleep on the plane. You know you want to play...
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 15, 2005, 10:05:31 AM I don't want to spend any money on Kamigawa. That's why I specifically wrote 9th Edition.
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: WayAbvPar on July 15, 2005, 10:28:59 AM I might just be willing to check this out if we wait for 9th Edition. I like the old school cards, and the editions remind me of them the most.

I like the old school cards, and the editions remind me of them the most. Yes, I may try to get into it once 9th is released. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 15, 2005, 12:19:48 PM What's the current release date set for 9th anyway?
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: schild on July 15, 2005, 01:39:02 PM Like August 27th or something.
Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Johny Cee on July 15, 2005, 01:57:57 PM I'd be in for a 9th edition draft.
I'll warn you.... I'm the worst limited player ever. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Margalis on July 15, 2005, 02:04:54 PM So it sound like the consensus is wait for 9th.
Strazos if you still want to play sometime I have my week 1 league deck I can play against a league deck of yours. I am pretty much always in a league, so I always have league decks with a restricted card pool ready to go. I've never even tried to make a constructed deck, I don't have the cards or the motivation to trade for them. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Strazos on July 15, 2005, 11:29:11 PM OK...but my league deck is GARBAGE.
I know see the wisdom of Schild's words... Kamigawa block is ASS. Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: eldaec on July 16, 2005, 12:41:10 PM I'll be up for this if timezones permit, especially since you are waiting for 9th ed, since I'm in Taiwan till around the time 9th launches, and while the European difference may be harsh, the Taiwanese to US timezone difference is truly brutal.
(Strazos, in your case you should probably read Taiwan as 'Taiwana') Title: Re: F13 League Play? Post by: Hanzii on July 17, 2005, 03:50:36 PM This could make me fire up my account again.
Of course timezones and the fact, that my two kids doesn't care if daddy's tired because he played on the computer all night would probably prevent me from partaking - I'd love to though. |
