I just wanted to point out (since I don't know where else to post this): You don't need a GFX5700 to play. I've got a 5200 and I can play it fine (albeit at *gasp* 800x600). So, if you have that at least, you'll be OK.

My computer isn't exactly cutting edge, either. I'm playing with everything on medium except shadows (low) and textures (high). I haven't tweaked it much, though. It runs great at 1280x720. Rig is an AMD Barton 3000 w/1GB pc 3200, 9800pro w/256 DDR2 VRAM.

9800 Pro 256 MB > Ti4600 128 MB

Guess what I'm trying to say is: Yes you do.

The first time I played, I had neglected to set my video settings (and you can't set them while connected to a server). I played a couple of rounds and 1024x768. It seemed ok. Then I changed the settings to 1600x1200 and played again. HUGE difference. Playing low res makes it really hard to see anything in the distance, which is quite a disadvantage.

Everything in there is absolutely true, although my upgrade was looking at $800 for one game, there's not a single other game out there that I would get that would benefit enough for the cost.

And I want to play this game so badly, that the only thing preventing me ordering 800 dollars of upgrades (on already near-maxxed credit cards) is that I should most likely be moving in the next week, and don't know my new address.

My computer is a year and a half old, my video card is over a year old and wasn't top end when I bought it. Stop being silly.

This has nothing to do with BF2 and everything to do with the nature of pc gaming. Deal or buy a console and the xbox version of battlefield. Sorry if that sounds unkind, but you're pc gamers for fuck's sake. You should know all this by now.

And if you spent more than a couple hundred bucks on a video card you know will need upgrading in a year or two, well, that's what you get. It's all about research and timing, bang for the buck. But pc gaming has been, is, and always will be expensive.

Don't forget to disable fsaa, the bf engine has always had problems with it.
Yep, I play on a fixed pixel display, horiz. resolution is 720. Doesn't seem to bug me, but I'm apparently a fanboi.

That's not a bad rig, it's like the linked article says, the fault is entirely on the developer in this one, or maybe the publisher for pushing it early. (read the article)

My "gaming" computer is a piece of shit. My video card is on the lowest end of the FX series and can be had for under $50. I only have 512 MB Ram, and an Athlon 2200. It hasn't prevented me from starting up, or from playing well. I haven't had the game for a week, and I'm close to 2000 rank points from combat alone.

There's really no good excuse for not supporting the GF4 Ti line. The GF4 MX (which is really a GF2) I can kind of understand not supporting but even Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 support that piece of crap card.

Apparently is entirely unnecessary there.  :roll:

Btw, I just bought a ATI 9550 because it was a cheapo and seemed to have enough features for decent settings. I'm still messing around though.  Right now, it seems that I can get everything on High, except Medium settings with Lighting and Texture Quality (this is with Singleplayer. I haven't tried Multi yet).

EDIT: OK, just played a 64 Multi battle with the same settings. Everything on High, except Medium Lighting and Texture Quality. 2x AA. Still runs good.

The card only cost $120. I used to hate ATI, but this is a damn good deal compared to Nvidia.

Speaking of not needing to upgrade. I'm just gonna play it on my Xbox. This months OXM came with a free XBL multiplayer demo for up to 24 people on one map. Anyone care to join me? I figure at least vehicles will be uber easy with a controller.

Which, BTW, uses Pixel Shader 1.3, the version the GF4 Tis use that they aren't supporting on the PC.
