Title: Gamespy's Top 25 Xbox games
Post by: schild on July 01, 2005, 08:01:08 AM
In Order:
Quote
25. Fable (Xbox)
Tony Hawk's Underground (Xbox)
LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game (Xbox)
Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict (Xbox)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 (Xbox)
The Chronicles of Riddick (Bonus Disc) (Xbox)
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 (Xbox)
Madden NFL 2005 (Xbox)
Jade Empire (Xbox)
Mercenaries (Xbox)
Forza Motorsport (Xbox)
Psychonauts (Xbox)
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (Xbox)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Xbox)
Soulcalibur II (Xbox)
Project Gotham Racing 2 (Xbox)
NBA Street Vol. 2 (Xbox)
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 (Xbox)
Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Xbox)
Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox)
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (Xbox)
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox)
1. Halo 2 (Xbox)

I wonder how you get away with making a list like this without Fatal Frame II Director's Cut,  Dead or Alive Ultimate, Beyond Good & Evil, and Timesplitters FuturePerfect? I'd probably replace any of the sports titles with Phantom Dust as well.

Halo 2 at #1? I don't think so, man. Not to be That Guy, but come on.

No Links 2k4? Halo in the top 10? I wash my hands of this shitty poll.

Yeah that is pretty ridiculous.

That list is pretty damn sad, there are like 4 games there I would ever want to even try playing for 5 minutes.

The sad thing is that most of them have come out in the last six months or so, since last holiday season, anyway. For a system that's what? 3-1/2 years old?

I do agree plenty of them kick butt, though. SC2 is fighter love, they got KotOR, NBA Street Vol 2 was a great game (but none of my friends could get past the b-ball aspect of the game, I'm no bball fan, but it's a fun game...like THPS meets bball).

Wow, for a minute there, I thought Lego Star Wars was on that list.

Let's get real, you at least have to have an ending to make a top 25 list.

Halo 2 is number one. Oh wait, I see what you're saying. It has an ending. It's called Halo 3.

For the X-Box 360.

Heh, as Paelos mentioned, KoToR 2's undoing was its ending.  It just completely deflated the game.  It's hard not to feel disappointed after finishing it.  Also, it really didn't raise the bar from orginal at all; it wasn't a better game in any facet.  Most of what it brought to the game was un-needed clutter.  Just everything they tried to do differently with this one didn't really work. I  couldn't even muster the energy to give it a second run through.  I figured the 5 bucks I'd probably get at EB were worth more than having to put my Xbox games into multiple stacks inside my cabinet near the TV.

As for Halo 2.  It was neat for like a week. My fanboi goggles got cloudy fast with this title.  I just can't see how so many people are that enamored with it.  Sure it's well done and moderately fun, but it's nothing Max Payne didn't do 200x better. I guess it would be more fun if I was 16 and still had friends that came over to my house to eat cheetos and play videogames.   I never finished it and traded it in at EB.

Edit:  One glaring omission: Top Spin.  Prossibly the greatest tennis video game ever. That's as bad as not having Links on the list.  God there's a lot of payola on that list. Ugg.

I agree on the Links comment, but on Top Spin. I hate to say it, but goddamn is Virtua Tennis just that good.

Well, I did say possibly (Engrish aside). I've never played Virtua Tennis.  Top Spin, despite taking some liberties with the actual abilities of a top ranked tennis player, is just astounding tennis.  Really, its only glaring weak point is that to a knowledgeable tennis fan some of the actual tennis is on par with NBA Jam (for the NBA) as far as doing shit that's humanly impossible.

I agree. It's one of the reasons I don't play football or basketball games but will play Top Spin.

If I wanted to play a sport, I wouldn't play a simulator. I play games to do things I *CAN'T* do, irl. That said, yes of course, I could play in the NFL.

That's one thing that pissed me off about hockey games. They tried to make everything more realistic and simulation style where even keeping possession of the puck is an artform. That's too much. I want to put people over the boards, dammit.

Just avoid playing on a Pro-All-Star in NHL 2k4/2k5 and you can do just that. Keeping the puck is easy, keeping the puck while drunk, now that's art.
