So all this talk about golf in the other thread has reminded me that we need to do an X-Box Live Links 2004 Tournament of some kind. I've been reading up on it and wanted to see the interest. We have many options:

1) Match play or stroke play (and if stroke play, do we want there to be a cut)?
2) 2-4 Rounds
3) Fast Play (Allows everyone to play at the same time, so you don't have to watch other people and wait for your turn)
4) 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64 participants (I'm expecting no more than 8)
5) The Course (Only free courses, either the defaults ones, the ones unlocked later, or the ones you can download on XBL for free)
6) Number of days between rounds (Between 1-7 days between each round)

Who is interested? In order to play, you'll need to sign up on XSN Sports (http://www.xsnsports.com/) (I think) and link it with your XBL account. Oh, and you'll need Links 2004 for the X-Box, which you should have anyway unless you hate golf games. Post in this thread your XBL name and your preferences of the above questions if you are interested.

I'm all signed up at XSN. Given the..."success" of the other league. Maybe we should try and keep it simple with 2 full rounds with a week between them.  :roll: Any course is fine. We'll probably have 4-6 people.

I look forward to getting thrashed as I don't have my saved characters on my new xbox.

I forgot to mention put a good starting date for this. We could do a 2-3 rounder one night a week for 2-3 weeks.

If it's after August 10th, I can't compete. Whatwith moving to Arizona and all that. But if I'm correct, you can play your round any time during the week alotted, doesn't have to be the same time as everyone else. Right?

AFAIK, you can play your rounds (if it is stroke play) any time during the allotted period. I would assume that match play requires both players to be present.

Anyone down for a practice match or two? Send me a game invite if you see me on.

Just do what I do, instant move of internet from point A to point B.  It's on and the first thing I plug in when I get to my new place.

If thats true I'd be up for this.  The spirit is willing, but the schedule is weak, thus a format where you basically have a week to a play a round at your choice of times would be ideal.

Played a few rounds this weekend to reaquaint myself with the game- wow, am I rusty. Low round was 66, high was 80 (!!!). I have been stuck on the same goddamned tournament FOREVER- I refuse to go forward until I win it. Didn't make the top 5 all weekend long. Ugh.

Ok, I set up a tourney for 8 players, starting next Monday, July 18th and ending Saturday, July 30th. Post your gamertag on this thread if you want to participate. It is a 2-round Stroke Play tourney at Greywolf. Once I get your gamertag, I can send out the invites by email. It will probably direct you to the competition page.

Go to XSN Sports (http://www.xsnsports.com) and sign up for an account. That will allow you to get into the tourney.

I don't have Links 2004. I'm sick of being the whipping boy, so I doubt I'll pick it up and suck my way through the tournament.

Also, you will need a settings password for each round. When you enter the tournament through the XSN Sports button on X-Box Live, you'll be asked for the tourney name (Bat Country) and the password (1006971). Then you will have Bat Country listed under your tournaments section. Select it, and it will ask for the Round Setting.

I think that's all that's needed. If we don't get anymore than 4 by Sunday morning, I'll probably have to delete this tourney and create a new one with 4 players. If that happens, I'll post all the right info this Sunday, set to start the same days.

I spent last night grinding out a couple of tourneys to improve my Advanced golfer. I was en fuego too- had 2 double bogeys and a bogey, and still shot 6 under!

Guess I am starting an Intermediate guy. Next tournament, let's make it advanced for extra pain.

Shockeye- I would recommend that you practice on Advanced- once you get used to that, the rest of it will be easy.

I signed up for the tourney, but it wouldn't let me play since I logged in with my Advanced career dude. Started an Intermediate guy last night and started leveling him. Teh grind is teh sux!  :-P

The rounds don't start until Monday.

I won't be respectable until 2 months from Monday.

I might as well let my kid play my rounds since he'll probably do a better job than me. Plus you can hear him say "jub-jub" over and over again over Live.

When is the deadline? I spent my weekend doing other things beside catassing my Intermediate golfer's skills to greatness. His drives are still well short of 300 most of the time, which is just embarrassing!

I'll have to add you on the next one. Apparently, even though no one has played a hole of golf yet, since today was the beginning date I can't add anyone else.

So, I played the first game last night. I did not know that apparently, there is a 2-minute time limit on each hole. If you don't finish the hole in 2 minutes, you get a 1-stroke penalty. And yes, the timer resets after the penalty and you can get ANOTHER penalty. Holy shit. For our next tourney, I will have to see if I can stop that shit. Finding this out on the first hole flustered me so much, I SCREWED THE FUCKING POOCH. BAD.

My first hole I shot a 12. That's 2-stroke penalty for delay, a fucked up tee shot that topped over into the rough, a 2nd shot with a 3-wood from the rough that I also topped, right into the fucking water hazard, for another stroke penalty, and the 3-putt I did because I was trying to hurry the shot to not get the goddamn penalty. Fuckity fuck fuck fucker fuck. Luckily, I didn't repeat that fucktardery, but had I double-bogeyed that hole, I'd have ended up even instead of 6 over. I had a few fuckups on other holes, but none that bad.

I think for the next tourney I'm going to set us on the back tees instead of the middle ones, and try to kill that time delay shit.

Yikes! If John Daly had a hole like that, he would start drinking right on the course!

Next time, let's play Advanced- that should lead to some extra special pain. Plus my advanced golfer is much farther along than my Intermediate. The swing meter actually screws me up in Intermediate- I am so used to playing without it that I find it very distracting.

Shot my round today- was a little nervous at first; double bogeyed the first, bogeyed 2, and bogeyed 18. The rest in between was much better- went on a birdie tear. Left 2 eagle putts short by inches.

Final score was -6. Very beatable.

Go to Multiplayer menu, then go to XSN Sports. Choose the Bat Country tournament, then enter the key to the first round (it will default as SETTINGS)- ZTNK37F.

Hmmm. I know you signed up via the website. I seem to remember having to enter that info again through XBL before it showed up, but I can't remember now.

You have to go to XSN Sports on XBL, select New Tournament, then enter the tourney name (Bat Country) and password (1006971). Then select Bat Country on the menu (it should appear under New Tournament), and it'll ask for the round setting. 1st round is ZTNK37F as Way said.

And Way, your -6 isn't beatable by my +7, unless you royally screweth the pooch on the 2nd round.

Yeah, next tourney there will be at least 1 mulligan. And longer tee shots. And I'll know that there is a fucking time limit on each hole. Fucking timeout griefers who make it necessary to program in "fair play" bullshit like that make me sick.

I've calmed down since last night. That one fairway shot had me kicking stuff. I did manage a schweeeeeeeeeeeeet chip-in after a horrible hole though. Also had a couple super nice putts. All in all I was pretty happy with the game given the fact my stats are something like 4/3/4/3.

I think I have 15 total skill points, so I am right there with you. If you really want pain, set the next one to Advanced with no mulligans.

We should set up a match play one sometime so we can play together. Watching someone else explode is a joy to behold.

I still suck, just not as bad. I finished with a +9 overall. I do not do this bad offline. I boofooed a few holes by topping the ball with too much overspin or something. And just for consistency, I topped a ball into a water hazard on 10, then took so long to get it to the green that I got a 2-stroke penalty for time delay and ended up with a quintuple bogey on the hole, shooting a 10. FUCK.

We'll need to do another one of these, with different settings.

I will endeavor to finish my victory lap 2nd round tonight. I always up for another tourney too- I loves me some Links.

This time i TRIPLE-BOGEYED 9 and doubled 18-  I can't seem to finish a side worth a damn. Still shot a nice score though, thanks to back to back eagles on 10 and 11.

Schild could catch me by shooting -19, I think.
