Got grades today.  The first semester, I spent 4+ hours every day outlining and reading and rereading everything and making cliff notes and outlines in case I got called on, and spent weeks in exam prep.  Result?  Dead middle of the class in grades.  This semester, I spent literally 10% of the time on class I did the first semester- no outlining, read for one out of maybe every three classes, and spent 1 day of exam prep for each class.  Result?  Grades in the top 20%.

The lesson here is to get wasted more often, and I will.  If I can inch my grades up a little more (top 30% of the class roughly now) I may be able to get a federal appellate clerkship with a respected conservative appellate judge like Alito or Luttig and have good enough grades for Navy JAG afterward. :)  Did anyone here do a clerkship?  How did you like it?       

I would say grats, but the world doesn't need more lawyers. So, you get a  :|.

The jury is still out on if "getting drunk = good grades" actually works. I think you got lucky.

I really doubt that you actually want to work for the Navy JAG office.  Unless you like putting decorated heros away for 10 years because they got a DUI.

I worked in a JAG office after rotating back from overseas while I was waiting to EAS, just stupid clerking stuff but I had access to every current case on Camp Pendleton (commands don't get much larger) domestic abuse, thievery and DUI's were 99.99% of the cases.  Don't believe what you see on TV.

The prosecutors were some of the most bitter, jaded and cynical people I ever met.  Several times I watched them used the system (less experienced attorneys are ALWAYS the defender) to screw over someone so thier fit-rep looked better for the next promotion.

So let me get this straight, Triforcer wants to be JAG? You know they cancelled the series...

That describes civilian prosecuters too.

So is law school hard?

I still don't know what I want to do with my life, but I heard the hours and work for a practicing patent lawyer are nice.

That's like asking if college is hard. Depends on where you go and then it depends on if you want to learn anything or just fuck fat chicks.

Also, if you want to fuck fat chicks, make sure to have a good exit strategy so people don't find them wandering out of your room in the morning in search of post-hump snack-ems.

A moderatly good school, and there to learn.

I liked law school a whole hell of a lot more than practicing law.

Anyways:

First Year:  Hard.  Have to learn all new tools and delve into some truly byzantine legal concepts that often make no rational sense.  Socratic teaching method can be brutal on you if you either don't understand or don't prepare. 

Second Year: Not as hard, but more work.  You are usually clerking part-time, are doing moot court and if you are good enough are on a publication (law review, etc.) so you put in looooooooooong hours. Classes are more interesting than the basic first year stuff, but you are working your ass off.

Third Year:  Classes don't mean much as you are just taking stuff to get your requirements. You are maybe doing a clinical, taking a trial-ad course that lets you practice real lawyer-type stuff as well as clerking part-time.  You are senior staff at a publication or don't give a shit about that and are working more.  Trying to line up job or clerkship.  Want it to be done, but dreading bar exam.
