We've got this anti-everything-sexual thing going right now. Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: Jeff Kelly on June 26, 2005, 02:09:07 AM Can she get away with said "crazy things" here in the states? We've got this anti-everything-sexual thing going right now. Yes of course she can. I think you misunderstood me. Nobody got naked onstage and there was no pornography involved. It was just a great gig and I wolud have never imagined that just playing a piano could be such a sensual experience. If you are a fan of Tori try to get tickets to one of her shows, you will not be disappointed. Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: Signe on June 26, 2005, 06:28:44 AM Paelos, you know I love you, you crazy little monkey, so I offer you this advice... from the heart. Virginity is NOT working out for you. All you think about is sex. A substantial number of your comments are innuendo. Please go get laid immediately. I'll even chip in if you're a bit short this month.

Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: voodoolily on June 26, 2005, 01:29:40 PM Tori Amos is an itty bitty goddess and I think she's fabulous. I've never seen her live, but she never ceases to amaze me.
Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: Ralence on June 26, 2005, 08:37:01 PM I'm a huge fan. And just got tickets for her trip through here in August. I've seen her about a dozen times, all the way back to the early 90's when I first heard about her. Being trained as a classical pianist for 10 or so years myself, and she definitely peaked my interest back then. It's not all that normal these days for someone to pick piano as their instrument of choice to compose for, so I was immediately hooked. The one thing I can say is that she's a whole lot odd. There's a book out that I received as a gift, and I just don't understand half of the things she's talking about, her spiritual beliefs and methodology just confuse me more than explain anything. Even the song lyrics which are just as strange, I can try to interpret myself, and then she'll come out in some interview and just shoot my ideas all to crap, and then I get frustrated and can't listen to that song ever again. Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: Shockeye on June 26, 2005, 08:41:19 PM She's gotten crazier over the years. I think her best album was her first, "Little Earthquakes", but I did enjoy both "Under the Pink" and "Boys for Pele" due to the wonderful use of the harpsichord. After that she started getting a little too "out there" for me.

If I was to be reincarnated as an inanimate object I would love to be brought back as her piano bench :-DTitle: Re: Tori Amos Post by: Joe on June 27, 2005, 06:22:00 AM She hangs out with the Maynard/Reznor crew, no? I've tried numerous times to get into her, but nothing really grabs me. Are there any good gateway songs?
Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: UD_Delt on June 27, 2005, 06:46:02 AM I've seen her twice in concert. The first time was incredible and was a completely unique concert experience. The concert was held at the same place that the Dayton Philharmonic played at the time. It was very unusual in that simiilar to an orchestra or philharmonic show the place was silent while she was playing. Even in between songs it was quiet enough where she could have conversations with individual people throughout the hall. Ushers were actually walking around and quieting people making noise while she was playing. I don't even think they had any amplification for her piano, only a mic for her voice. A very unique experience.
The second was when she toured with a full band and while still a decent show it was no where near as amazing as the first time I saw her. Is this show just her or is she touring with a band? Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: Jeff Kelly on June 27, 2005, 07:10:24 AM Is this show just her or is she touring with a band? Just her. The concert was held at the munich philharmony. She had her boesendorfer grand piano with her, a hammond organ and two other things with keyboards I didn't recognize. She was using amplifiers however, both for her voice and the piano. Nevertheless it was great. She didn't talk much during the concert, just said hello when she first entered the stage. Maybe she thought that nobody there could talk her language or she's just shy Title: Re: Tori Amos Post by: HaemishM on June 27, 2005, 10:22:28 AM I've seen a live show of hers on TV, and I can only imagine it being that much better in person. Something about orchestral type instruments that just sounds so much goddamn better in person, in a good hall. She is amazing, but yeah, she's a complete flake in person. I've seen interviews where she's just flying on a fucking kite, without any narcotics whatsoever. She's a flighty girl, but a damn fine pianist.
