Title: Looking for a program to split up video files
Post by: ClydeJr on June 22, 2005, 09:06:49 AM
Anyone know of a easy-to-use, hopefully free program to split up video files into smaller video files? Such as taking a 50 MB file and splitting it into 5 10 MB files, each which can be played independently? My sister is pregnant and has a video of her sonogram. Unfortunately her husband is halfway around the world flying F-18s off a carrier. She wants to send the sonogram video to him but they have a 10 MB limit on attachments.

I'm looking for something that can split up the files. It needs to be very easy to use (she's pretty much computer illiterate) and hopefully either free or share-ware. I have no clue what type of file it is (wmv, mov, mpg, etc). Thanks in advance for any help.

If she is running Windows XP, Windows Movie Maker 2 works well for that sort of thing and it's free.

Another way to solve this problem is to use a general purpose archive splitter/joiner like WinZip or a dedicated file splitter/joiner like SplitEasy (http://www.softsystechnologies.com/spliteasy.htm) (Warning: never used personally so I don't know how good it is) to split up the video file for sending. The receiver won't be able to view the individual pieces that way but he'll just need to recombine them into one first.
