Baltimore County police spokesman Bill Toohey told WBAL-TV 11 News authorities received a call from the man's family about a missing family car. They told police the man suffers from mental problems. Toohey said officers found the car at the Baltimore-Carroll County line shortly after 11 a.m. on Liberty Road over Liberty Reservoir -- and they found the naked man in the water. Authorities have not released the identity of the man. Two officers pulled the man from the water and secured him inside an ambulance. But police told 11 News the man began arguing with the attending paramedic, forcing the ambulance to stop. That's when, police said, the man bolted from the ambulance, ran back to the bridge and stood at the railing. Officers tried to talk to the man in an effort to return him to safety, but the man fell back into the water. The officers, now joined by a state trooper, then employed the help of a private boater at the scene who helped pull the 300-pound man to safety, but as a result of the weight, the boat sank, 11 News reports. Carroll County water rescuers responding to the scene pulled the boat owner, then the man and then the officers from the water. Police said divers then entered the water in an effort to capture the boat. Police said the boat, valued at an estimated $20,000, belongs to an Eldersburg resident.
