Title: EA makes ridiculous fantasy football service.

Quote
The service features the EA Sports Edge analyzer tool, which lets gamers optimize their starting lineups, and MaddenView, which is described as "an all-new prediction tool." The service also links up to Madden NFL 06, allowing team owners to check scores, get up-to-date fantasy information, and earn in-game trophies. EA did not specify if all versions of Madden NFL 06 will be able to link up to the service.

Winners of each league will receive an EA game of their choice, and the top overall scorer wins a VIP trip to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Would-be commissioners can start a league for $49.99, and teams can play for $9.99.

God I love it when they use a free gift and the cost of that free gift in the same sentence.

Fuck EA in their tiny little asses. I'm not going to pay them for a fantasy service when others either do it free, or have been doing it a while, such as Sportsline or Yahoo or ESPN. I don't care if it links up with my console football game of choice or not.

Sigh.

If they give free fantasy football services the 800-pound gorilla raping, I will fucking burn every EA office to the ground.*

I subscribed to it twice to make sure EA continues to fuck your console-loving asses over.

Now that's just spitful. At least fuck over everyone for a better reason than consoles.

So how long until EA begins requiring you to use their Fantasy Football service, since they have the exclusive rights to the use of all NFL player names in games?

And will Homeland Security be the ones making the bust of illegal Fantasy Football Leagues?

And does that mean that if we start Arena Football fantasy leagues, that the terrorists have already won?

I doubt that'll happen. ESPN has a lot of lawyers.

Fantasy Football is a game. Depending on the amount of evil in the exclusivity deal with EA about players names, teams and symbols, this very well could be EA pulling the blanket over everyones head. They might have just delivered the inglewood jack to the entire sports industry.

Which, I'll grant, is fucking cunning.

The NFL would not sign away the rights to fantasy football without an extra $5 billion in liscensing fees.

You may be right.  On the other hand, this is the country where you have to pay royalties if you want to sing Kumbaya (http://www.peterpaulandmary.com/music/20-13.htm) at your summer camp.

Because that's how Geogre Washington meant it to be.

EA's agreement with the NFL and PLAYERS INC is only for football video games. Also EA has a separate agreement with ESPN to use ESPN's stuff in their games so even if their NFL/PLAYERS INC agreement somehow applied to non-video game Fantasy leagues I doubt it would apply to ESPN.
