Title: Sports/Fantasy Sports?
Post by: WayAbvPar on March 18, 2004, 10:57:19 AM
Is this the right forum for this? Should we have one catch all thread, or break it down by sport? I NEED somewhere to gloat about my upcoming romp through the WT fantasy baseball league, and to lament about my March Madness bracket getting eviscerated the first day.

Once everyone gets settled, I'll probably create a sports forum again. And as we all know, my starting pitching owns all.

The rest of my staff is injured. Anger.

You got a pitcher who has almost no cartaledge left in his knee, is old, and spent most of last season injured.

Hey, I'll trade you Kevin Brown as well if your interested.

Goddamnit- the very FIRST fucking game in the NCAA tourney, and my bracket is in shambles. I know better than to back Florida...they ALWAYS fold like a hooker who just got punched by a fat guy with sores on his mouth come tourney time.

Small consolation, but at least I got TT and Maryland right.

Shambles?  Wha... you had them getting by Wake (and St. Joe?!)?  Shake yourself, WAP.

I have no idea what the hell I was thinking- I think I had them going to the regional finals! Talk about a fever dream...

St. Joe will get beat before the regional finals-probably the Sweet 16. Wake is losing right now, so they better pick it up!

Just you wait!  Randy is going to... to... come on, he's all I could get.

All I know is my Flyers got screwed.

End of regulation and the refs whistle a held-ball on a rip away. Fastest damn whistle I've ever heard. DePaul uses the turnover to tie the game.

First OT - .4 seconds left, tie game, DePaul guy tries to inbound for the redirect and launches the ball into the rafters and hits the scoreboard. Dayton gets the ball with .4 left right under their basket. Inbound, redirect, obvious foul, no call.

Second OT - Dayton implodes and non-stop fouls the one guy who can actually shoot freethrows. He hits 8/8 in the third OT for the win.

Edit: Ahh crap. Just realized I signed up here with the wrong name. Well I'm now no longer Phulax, I'm now UD_Delt I guess.

Edit #2: Corrected game summary due to sleep deprived brain...

Remember, live draft for the WFT Yahoo Baseball league is tomorrow at 1 pm CST (11 am PST, 12 Noon MST, and 2 PM EST). If you aren't going to participate in the league, let me know as I have one person who would like a spot if one opens up.

Both of my Yahoo public leagues drafted overnight- this is how I ended up-

Quote
1st team-

C- Jason Varitek
1b- Albert Pujols
2b- Luis Castillo
3b- Eric Chavez
SS- Miguel Tejada
OF-  Carl Crawford
OF- Miguel Cabrera
OF- Juan Gonzalez
Util- Derek Jeter (goddamned autodraft gave me a Yankee!)
Bench- Jose Reyes, Adam Kearns, Eric Hinske, Joe Crede, Matt LeCroy

SP- Curt Shilling
SP- Kevin Brown (another Yankee!)
RP- Arthur Rhodes
RP- Shigetoshi Hasegawa
P- Matt Morris
P- Brett Meyers
P- Ted Lilly

 2nd Team-

C- Ivan Rodriguez
1b- Mark Texiera
2b- Alfonso Soriano
3b- Morgan Ensberg
SS- Nomar Garciaparra
OF- Magglio Ordonez
OF- Ichiro Suzuki
OF- Brian Giles
Util- Carl Crawford
Bench- Kaz Matsui, Jose Reyes, Jeromy Burnitz, Eric Hinske, Ryan Klesko

SP- Kevin Brown (again!)
SP- Brandon Webb
RP- Arthur Rhodes
RP- Jose Contreras (bleah)
P- Rich Harden
P- Freddy Garcia
P- Jake Peavy

I listed the whole roster to point out the shortcomings of the auto-draft system. No way I draft 4 3rd baseman, and waste my entire bench on crappy batters and no pitchers. WTF???? I am gonna have to spend the first 6 weeks finding gems or I am screwed. My pitching staff last year carried me to victories in both my H2H league and my roto league- not gonna happen this year.

Long way of saying I am glad we are doing a live draft tomorrow!

And here I thought this was going to be about the Baseball MMO that keeps spamming my hotmail box.

I run a carry-over league in its 12th season? Still in the draft but my boys have gotten a little long in the tooth and it cost me last year as the injuries piled up (RJohnson, Sweeney, Edmonds, Piazza, Drew, etc.). Time to rebuild.

Arg.  Stupid bar exam review class today during the live draft.

Bringing my laptop so I'll hopefully be there, but maybe my pre-ranks won't screw me too bad.

Are we going to hang out in an IRC channel during the draft or what?

Live draft tool isn't workin...

Anyone know what I may need to DL to get in?

All you needed was a Java-enabled browser.

Live draft was fun and didn't take too long, but holy shit did the talent pool get thin after about 2 rounds.

I may have picked more competently had I actually been replaced by the Yahoo bot.

Vazquez will pwn j00 all.

I don't feel so bad now about getting Clement instead of Wood, Prior, or Maddux......

Mostly cause poor madman's Prior is heading for the injury list.

Prior isn't going anywhere except straight to the Cy Young Award with 20 games won, a low ERA and 250+ K's.

I am actually shocked that I got more Cubs on my roster (a total of 6) than Haemish

Well, as a Cubs fan, I'm hoping I'm wrong about Prior and this is just my pre-season pessimism setting in.

As someone who has Bonds, Griffey Jr, Nixon, (Jacques Jones I'm somewhat ok with...he's decent) in the OF, and a pitching staff that consists of Clement and Borowski (and maybe Willis, but we'll see how he does), I certainly hope he at least misses a start :)

That's cos your ass kept stealing 'em before I could draft them, you pigfucker. Sosa, Ramirez, Prior were all taken the round before I could get them.

EDIT: And because I'm a Cubs fan, I must say it's time to give up the ghost on Juan Cruz. He is never going to make the rotation; his control just will not be consistent enough.

Post by: Madman on March 22, 2004, 12:31:34 PM
Hey you had your chance to take Ramirez, but you decided to go for another pitcher in the second round. I probably should have grabbed Borowski in the 4th round instead of Encarnacion, but I had to get another outfielder before they all disappeared. Oh well, I got Prior and Zambrano and thats going to equal a lot of strikeouts for me, as long as Zambrano plays as well as he did last year.

Ahhh, the hopeless optimism of the Cubs fan.  It should be bottled and sold as an antidepressant.

Not for long, bitchcakes. My ERA will start to go down, and I can finally get some of my heavy hitters involved.

Shit, I don't have any heavy hitters. PATTERSON WILL GUIDE ME TO VICTORY DAMNIT!

I was pissed that you grabbed Mauer...until he snapped it last night. MRI time.

Post by: HaemishM on April 07, 2004, 01:12:55 PM
Yeah, how unlucky do you have to be to sprain your knee in the second game as the young phenom? And how bad will the GM feel if Mauer misses significant time knowing A.J. is doing decently in San Fran?

Heh- I was thinking the same thing. The talking head color guy on ESPN2 was jizzing all over AJ because he stopped a couple of curveballs in the dirt which ended up saving at least 2 runs. Doh!
