Title: Magic Kingdom Online
Post by: Furiously on May 25, 2005, 08:19:57 AM
Stolen from Slashdot..

http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/index?name=VMKHomePage

It's some sort of Virtual Magic Kingdom. Disney seems to be moving into the realm of MMOGs fairly aggresively. Toontown, Pirates, and now this.

I understand it has the same chatstyle as toontown. Anyone given it a try?

Pederast magic kingdom maybe...  I'd put my "kids" in EQ2 first.

Edit: sorry, hypothetically speaking as well.  Not really sure I'd want my children exposed to Smed's business models.

I think the ol' corporate firewall is once again stopping my game time.  I'll have to check it out when I get home.

Given the chat interface - its hard to talk about anything that isnt game related. I really didnt mind the toontown interface too much. I would not have too much issue sitting next to my (hypothetical) kid letting them talk to whoever in Toontown without fear of someone being able to prey on them.

You're aware of how the TT chat works, right?  You have a limited dropdown list of things you can say until you are able to deliver a secret code to someone outside the game that they can enter, at which point you have open chat.  Good luck to anyone who wants to build pederasty out of 'Nice to see you!' and 'Let's fight some robots!'

If there weren't so many issues with all the different properties involved, I think a Kingdom Hearts MMORPG would be cool.

From my admittedly very short time playing with VMK, the chat interface is not like Toontown.  You type stuff in a chat box, and if the words you type are not on Disney's list of approved words, they show up in red, and presumably you have to change them or abandon the line you typed.  Or something like that.
