Police: Man Used Circus Clown Costume To Lure Children (http://www.nbc4.tv/news/4484329/detail.html)
Man Faces Molestation Charges

POSTED: 6:19 pm PDT May 12, 2005
UPDATED: 2:30 pm PDT May 13, 2005

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- A man accused of child molestation used his persona as a circus clown to lure children, according to Fontana authorities.

Police said the man used his circus-like act to lure young girls into his minivan.

"He dresses as a clown," said Sgt. William Megenney. "It's pretty much your normal, run-of-the-mill clown-type outfit -- the white pancake makeup, the red whig, the big clown shoes."

David Albert Lemus, 48, has been performing in the Los Angeles, Orange County and Inland Empire areas for more than a decade as Trim-Trim the clown. Authorities said he attended swap-meets and offered his services for a variety of events, such as birthday parties.

Police said Lemus targeted Spanish-speaking girls. Fontana police said there could be more than 14 victims.

Megenney said Lemus was not associated with a circus.

He was arrested May 7 after a report involving an alleged assault Saturday night. Police said Lemus was wearing his clown costume when he allegedly assaulted two girls -- ages 12 and 14 -- in his van outside a swap-meet at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino.

Bond was set at $500,000.

I thought kids being picked up by a perv in a van was just a cliche...

I mean, who falls for this shit?

C'mon, you know you'd fall for it.

This is just so appropriate-

Quote
Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown
Kinko, Kinko, the kid loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown!!!

Kinko's in his Kinko car, pockets full of change
lots of dirty pictures and sticky candy canes.
All the kids love Kinko for the presents that they get
silly leather clothes to wear and happy cigaretts.

-Hi boys and girls, my name is Kinko the clown!!!
-Hi Kinko!!!
-And I really love you boys and girls!!!
Really, really....
-Awwww
-But my legs get tired standing out in the parking lot handing out
stale tootsie rolls to you rugrats, so if anyone wants to come back
to Kinko's trailer and massage his legs, he'd really really like it.
Really, really.....

Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown
Kinko, Kinko, the kid loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown!!!

We go to Kinkos clubhouse, sometimes after school
we play in Kinkos crawl space, there's never any room
We have to sit on Kinkos lap there's never any chairs
Kinko likes to tickle us and give us funny stares.

-Gee I haven't had this much fun since Christmas when I got
to play Santa Clause and all the boys and girls got to sit on Kinko's lap-
-Mommy mommy! Kinko hurt me!-
-But that was in Indianapolis and thanks to the liberal reciprocity laws here
Kinko can be with you boys and girls today or anytime.

Jimmy Johnson ran away and didn't say goodbuy
Kinko went to look for him to help the FBI
But Kinko has some handcuffs on his eyes were full of tears
said "I'll be back to play with you sometime in 20 years!"

Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
the parents wanna beat me up and run me outa town!
Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
tar and feather Kinko and run him out of town!

-Bye boy's and girls!!!!
-Bye Kinko! See you at the turn of the century!
-Kinko really love you boys and girls!!
Really, really....

Children are not usually that savvy. You're awfully mightier-than-thou today, Strazos. Did something fuzzy get lodged up your ass, then start beaming rainbows and rays of sunshine?

I now have to wonder if the name Trim-Trim wasn't picked as some sort of awful euphemism.

You just now have to wonder that? Am I a sick fuck, or did anyone else automatically assume he was talking about dark 'n curlies?

To be fair to me, I just read this thread right before I posted. I tend not to read the boards on weekends.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

Don't people teach kids to "not talk to strangers" anymore?

I wouldn't have fallen for this when I was 3.

Another example of "natural selection"?

I will join you in being mightier-than-thou on this issue.  Heck, I knew enough not to get into some random clown's minivan when I was a kid, and we didn't live in some crime-infested rathole.

And, where the hell were the parents?  Right after Rin-tin-tin the Saucy Clown, they bear a good chunk of the blame for this.  Don't want your kids being buggered?  Yeah, um, try taking the time out of whatever else is so damn important and train your children better.

Those girls were 12 and 14. Were you still being chaperoned by your parents when you were in high school? The girls were fucking stupid (especially since they're old enough to have seen It), but you can't really blame the folks at this point.

Chaperoning has nothing to do with it.  How about having enough dialog with your children before any problems arise such that these things are discussed in an open, dignified manner?  How about making sure you actually tell your kids that hey, you know, getting into a minivan with a stranger, let alone Trim-Trim the Porno Clown, is a bad idea?

Parents don't need to be (and really, can't always be) physically present to protect their kids.  They can do that through communication beforehand.  Communication that almost certainly didn't take place with these two girls.  But, that takes time ... time away from doing stuff the parents would rather do, which is probably closer to the root of the problem.

Not the kids ... the 'rents.  Well, mainly the clown.  I just went off my hotbutton issue of "why the hell don't parents train their children better so they're better prepared for life."  Don't mind me, I'm merely being crotchedy.

Of course parents should tell their kids not to let themselves get molested, but kids that age should know better. Really. But if the kids are from immigrant families (which may be the case in LA), it wouldn't occur to the parents to tell their kids to avoid clowns in vans.

By the time they're adolescents, kids should start taking more responsibility for their actions. If a girl got raped because she was walking down a dark alley in the middle of the night, it's just as much her fault as it is the rapist's (you get my point). Have a little sense.

Edited for grammar

Those are good points.  But at ages 12 and 14, those girls still aren't adults.  Which, to me, means their parents are still responsible for them, legally and morally.

Look at it this way:  What was happening at age 4? 9? 11?  Why hadn't the parents had The Talk with them?  And, you can't just talk to your kids once about the birds and bees and strange-clowns-with-minivans and call it done.  You have to do it a lot, and answer questions multiple times that make most adults uncomfortable.  When two girls get into a minivan like that, it usually means they weren't prepared very well when they were younger.  Which is why I mainly blame the parents.

I can buy the cultural argument better than anything.  But still ... Like it or not, kids aren't fire-and-forget.  They are projects that take the better part of two decades.  What your kid does at 12 or 14 is largely dependent on what the parents did at earlier ages.

If by "holier than though" you mean "I wouldn't be dumb enough to raise my kids so poorly", than yes, I'm guilty as charged.

Mace pretty much covered everything else for me.

By "holier than thou" I mean, "Hate the clowns, not the kids". That's all.
