Title: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: Shockeye on May 07, 2005, 11:47:14 AM Quote from: AP Anne Rice Gets Biblical in Her Next Book (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/people_anne_rice) Sat May 7,10:06 AM ET NEW YORK - Vampires are usually her passion, but Anne Rice is getting biblical in her next book, due out in November from publisher Random House. "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt" will tell the story of Jesus' early years in his own words. Excerpts of a lengthy letter that will accompany advance review copies of the book this summer are published in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine. "For over 10 years I've wanted to do this book — Jesus in his own words," Rice writes. "For five years, I've been obsessed with how to do it, and for the last three years I've been consumed with nothing else." Rice, who has moved from New Orleans to San Diego, brought the undead back to life in the 1970s with "Interview With the Vampire." "I'm not a priest," Rice also writes in the letter. "I can't be one. I'll never be able to go to the altar of the Lord and say the words of consecration at Mass, `This is my body. This is my blood.' No, I can't work that magnificent Eucharistic miracle. But in humility, I have attempted something transformative which we writers dare to call a miracle in the imperfect human idiom we possess. It's to bring Him here in the form a story, and that story is Christ The Lord." Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: AOFanboi on May 07, 2005, 02:36:39 PM Gee, what else has Anne Rice written about other than people who wake up a number of days after they died? More of the same! Expect Queen of the Damned to "sire" that Jesus dude while young in Egypt. Or something like that.

Not giving her props, Brown writes for retards. Rice generally writes for chubby goth chicks. Or at least that's what I've noticed. Of course, I'm insane, so who am I to judge. Seriously though, chubby goth chicks. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: stray on May 07, 2005, 04:56:04 PM Rice's writing style drives me a little batty, but I'll defend her here. She's mentioned something like this before, as well as wanting to write other things involving Christian history. I don't know anything about her beliefs, but she comes off as someone who takes Catholicism pretty seriously. It has has nothing to do with Brown's success.

/but she is a hack. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: Ironwood on May 09, 2005, 02:14:22 AM Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. They always end up getting it together with a lawyer, accountant or doctor and that's the last you see of them till the grand 'He dumped her because she was cutting herself' comeback tour. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: UD_Delt on May 09, 2005, 06:25:31 AM I wonder if Jesus will be obviusly homosexual or if she will just allude to his homosexuality...
I read the Vampire Chronicles for a little while until the point they got graphically gay... Not that there's anything wrong with that.... Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: Strazos on May 09, 2005, 07:46:32 AM Just to fill my inflammatory quotient for the day, I have zero interest in how the Bible portrays the Lord (existant or not).
Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: stray on May 09, 2005, 08:34:00 AM I have zero interest in seeing how a Vampire writer portrays the Lord. She's a Christian. Catholic, I think. Look it up yourself. If you still want to write her off because she's writes vampire "fiction", then it might just be you with the problem. If you want to write her off because you don't like her style, then that's another thing. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: shiznitz on May 09, 2005, 08:48:45 AM If vampire's actually existed, then that would mean demons/devils/Satan exist which would prove the existence of a beneficent god which would destroy faith since faith is belief without proof and there would now be proof.
Or something. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: Paelos on May 09, 2005, 08:49:17 AM I have zero interest in seeing how a Vampire writer portrays the Lord. If you want to write her off because you don't like her style, then that's another thing. I'm writing her off because the subject matter is tough to cover for even the best writers specializing in the religious field. Covering the life of Jesus during his middle years of Egypt is not a small task. There is nothing in the Bible covering it, and thus you get only interpretations. Seeing as her previous writing experience has been churning out dark, brooding, characters with homoeroticism and bathing in blood, I'm less than intrigued. Anne Rice is not a writer I can think of that would characterize Jesus well. Frankly, I expect her to throw in some curve balls meant for shock value that up the book sales. I think she had some kind of conversion when her husband died, as well as her own health issues in recent years. She doesn't sound like the same person as when she wrote those books. I doubt she'd throw anything in for the sake of shock value, nor can I hold her past choices against her. I still don't like her writing style though.... As for the Egypt stuff, yes that's a valid point. Then again, I haven't read a better fictional story about Christ than Kazantzaki's Last Temptation, the bulk of which was speculation and interpretation. So personally, I wouldn't mind. Sometimes good things can come out of that as well. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. So long as it wasn't by an aging hack whose better days are 30 years behind her. Seriously. Interview was great, something I consider literature. The Witching Hour and Lestat was good. Lestat, Queen and the rest? Die in a book fire. Body Thief was just absolute shit, a total waste of book space. Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. But we can Agree that Gibsons's Passion was a snuff movie ? Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: HaemishM on May 09, 2005, 12:45:01 PM Yes.
Title: Re: Anne Rice writes book about Jesus. Lestat cameo unknown. Post by: Paelos on May 09, 2005, 01:12:06 PM If Gibson had gone a little futher with the idea instead of just stopping at, OMG LOOK AT THE BLOOD FLY, it wouldn't have been a snuff film.
