Heaven vs Hell Announced [April 25, 2005, 8:40 pm EDT] - 11 Comments
TKO Software announces plans for Heaven vs Hell, a good versus evil RTS game due next year:
TKO REVEALS HEAVEN VS HELL

Real Time Strategy Game Brings Angelic, Demonic and Mortal Forces to the PC

Addison, Texas -- April 25, 2005 -- TKO's Heaven VS Hell, the next generation of real-time strategy (RTS) PC gaming, will put players in command of angelic, demonic and mortal forces battling to determine the fate of humanity.

In the mid-25th century, human technology has become so advanced that they have learned to manipulate the natural order of the universe and begin meddling in God's design. Not since Satan challenged God for the throne of Heaven, has there been such sheer defiance of his will. Humanity's arrogance infuriates God, so he plans to cleanse the Earth of mankind and start anew. With the sound of a trumpet, the seal is broken and Heavenly forces descend upon the Earth. The Devil, fearing his own loss of power wages Armageddon, the war to end all wars, for the remaining souls of men.

Players control one of three factions: Heaven, Hell or Humans, each with their own distinct units, abilities and instruments of war. Their goal is to destroy their enemies by amassing an army and sending them into a holy/unholy war.

The game is built around the concept of resource and force management, as well as battlefield strategy, all packaged neatly within a fully featured game including a riveting story, beautiful 3D graphics and breathtaking sound effects.

Heaven VS Hell is scheduled for release in 2006.

If it was for the PSP, that would be...well...amazing.

Fitting for a handheld crafted by god himself.

So... Heaven's going to save Humanity by crushing it beneath it's heel.  Right, ok then.

No, Humanity has screwed with things, and Heaven is pissed, so Humanity gets to die. Hell wants their souls, so they won't let Heaven do what they want without a fight. Humanity doesn't feel like dying today.

That's it, in some sort of deformed nutshell of sorts.

Heaven wants to off mankind. Hell wants in on the action. Humans just don't want to be tossed in a blender.

Yep, this plotline sucks.

Better than Warcraft III.

Warcraft III didn't have a plot, therefore it is N/A.

What are you talking about? Warcraft III had a plot that hung over multiple campaigns and then released an expansion that did nothing but INCREASE the amount of story in the plot + add some new playable shit. They're all about plot. It's just so shitty that most people put it aside and pretend it wasn't there.

Heaven vs. Hell's plot is just an excuse as to why these 3 groups are fighting. I find that much more reasonable than running around as a pussy ass paladin trying to save my land from the ravaging horde and then turning around 2 weeks later and playing as the horde trying to destroy the alliance.

You are right, it did have a plot:

Arthas is good.
Undead are bad.
Must kill Bad guy, he bad.
Arthas seethes with generic rage.
Here's a cursed sword.
Let's fuck shit up.
I'm gonna kill my dad.
Uh oh, things suck now.
We're the undead, we dont like some other undead
Evil evil evil.
Here's the Orcs trading islands.
Here's the Elves looking stupid.
Trees attack!
With our powers combined we are Cpt. Planet
SCENE.

There's a reason I was being facetious.

PLUS: Expansion.

Here's $20Million Dollars. You're designer of the month! Welcome to EA! I've got numerous ideas on how we can gain exclusivity on all things ghey fantasy. This will be a wonderful relationship.

I guess that big ass flood didn't have anything to do with the concept of Heaven wanting to punish humans for their sins...

EDIT: After re-reading the [sarcasm] tags, I'm not sure if you agree with me, or not! Sorry if you do.

Sodom and Gomorrah.

Comparing video games to the old testament is surprisingly fulfilling.

Someone needs to license The Ten Commandments. Stone Tablets +1.

I guess that big ass flood didn't have anything to do with the concept of Heaven wanting to punish humans for their sins...

Genesis 6-9, yes? Well it's a bit strange at times: For instance, what is the connection between verses 4 and 5?

Quote from: New International Version
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them."

(Was Noah of the Nephilim? God had declared that humans should live no longer than 120 (Gen 6:3); Noah was 600 at the time of the flood and lived for another 350 (Gen 9:28) for a total of 950.)

To Reign in Hell lies unread in my stack of books, maybe I should give it a go.

Quote
Was Noah of the Nephilim?

Nephilim were not a race - otherwise there could not be Nephilim before and after the flood.  Examination of the original text shows the word to be more generic than this as well.  The word means "giants", "heroes", "great warriors", and similar ideas.  Keep in mind that ancients had a preocupation with comparing physical stature with greatness; Egyptian heiroglyphs are an excellent example of this.  It's obvious that Pharaohs were no larger than normal people, but they (and their executives) were depicted as such.  Noah would not be considered any of these, so no.

As for the connection between 4 and 5, the intent appears to be to paint a picture of what life was like at this point in time.  The Nephilim were considered great, but they were also attributed to relying on non-Biblical (or at this point in history, non-God) worship.  Think on, for example, Achilles or Agamemnon.

Quote
God had declared that humans should live no longer than 120 (Gen 6:3);

No:  God declared that there would be 120 years until the flood.  In Gen 6:3, the statement is that God will not remain with mankind forever; it is symbolic of his protection, or an attitude of looking after them.  Compare this with God dwelling with the Jews during the exodus.

by humans, they mean Vin Diesel, right?

And what about the Protoss and the Zerg wouldn't they step in also, if Heaven and Hell are going stand up to Vin, they'll need help.
