A health scare at a San Antonio restaurant sends a woman to the hospital Friday.

Karla Ramirez says she found fresh blood on her dish at El Rafas Cafe on West Hildebrand.

"I was adjusting my plate," says Ramirez, "I just saw something on my hand...thinking it was sauce, gravy. I put it to my mouth.. I noticed it was blood."

She says it was blood on bottom of her plate, but she had licked her finger before she realized it wasn't part of the entree.

"So I got up and I went to go get the waitress and when the waitress came back, she goes.. 'well do y'all still want to eat it?' And we're like.. 'no'.. we're not gonna eat it," says Ramirez.

Karla says the manager finally gave them an explanation.

"The manager told us that a cook had cut their finger earlier that morning and he had put a band-aid on it and it fell off," says Ramirez.

A health inspector and police officer came to the restaurant. They ordered the cook with the nasty cut out of the kitchen. The inspector says she also found what appeared to be blood on some of the serving utensils.

The restaurant offered to refund Ashley's money and give her a free meal.

The cook with the cut is not allowed to come back to work until he gets a doctor's release. The restaurant tells us the cut is so deep he may need stitches.

The health inspector says she will return here again Saturday to check the place out again.

Paramedics told Ramirez she will need a series of blood tests to make sure she didn't contract any diseases.

I'm picturing a redhead with chewing gum in her mouth.

/sigh

I'm in San Antonio at the moment, by the way.

There would be more than one restaurant employee bleeding if this happened to me, I can assure you.

I went to an Argentinian restaurant down in Miami once, they served blood sausage there, I really can't recommend grilled coagulated blood as a food item.

What a bunch of pussies! Haven't any of you read Kitchen Confidential? The cook was prolly some Latino guy with a family in Juarez who isn't gonna piss of his chef and lose money to take time off for some stupid little cut on his finger. Besides, we eat shit in our food worse than that all the time without even knowing it.
