Title: ESPN MLB 2k5 X-Box League
Post by: HaemishM on April 08, 2005, 12:06:17 PM
We're getting close to the time where we can start an X-Box live baseball league (i.e. when the rosters get updated). I've looked at the season options, and wanted some feedback. We can have 4-30 players (I'd imagine between 4 and 8 teams), and the number of games can be 8,16,24,32, and 40 games. Now, based on the football league, I'm thinking any more than 8 or 16 games just isn't going to ever get finished. So what do you guys think about 8 games, with a 3-game playoff series.

Does that sound good? If so, who is interested in playing, and what team would you want?

I've already called the Cubs, and I think Shockeye wanted the Twins.

Based on the football, I'd say 8 games is the way to go.

Is that 8 games against the opponent's #1 pitcher, or does it incoporate rotations and rest days and whatnot? Half the fun of a baseball season is balancing all that.

I'm going to assume it's just 8 games in a row, then playoffs. I would imagine that rest is involved, but the manual doesn't say.

I'm interested. I'd say 8 games and I'd want the Rangers.  :-D

If there's enough players, and this doesn't take more than a month or so, PERHAPS I'll play.

This isn't fantasy baseball, rite?

I'd pick up baseball just to try this out as long as people are really interested in it and it doesn't go the way of the football league.

Anyone having any gameplay issues? I get a weird thing- whenever I get a man on first base, the computer immediately starts throwing passed balls/wild pitches. Like 3 consecutively, so I can score. It has happened 4 or 5 times at least...very strange.

Also, I can't hit for shit. My team batting average is like .211 on the All-Star level. Of course, my ERA is like 2.00, so I win more than I lose, but I wanna knock the shit out of the ball. Perhaps my twitch gaming skills are eroding in my frail dotage. That would just depress the shit out of me.

The wild pitch/passed ball thing is an issue. Checking their boards (which yes, are full of the sports stupid), I've seen people talking about having as many as 20 passed balls a game. I've actually taken to putting in a set of difficulty sliders based on some posts in the forum.

Try the sliders on this thread (http://www.2ksports.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=67753&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0). I think I'm mostly using the pure realism sliders, and get decent results, few WP/PB issues. Still get some, but not as many as before. 2kgames is REALLY slow to address bugs or put out roster patches.

I'm still waiting for them to put out an offline roster patch for opening day rosters. They claim to have an online one already updated as of March 28th, and the offline one is supposed to have been released shortly after. Sigh.

I haven't seen 3 passed balls in a row, but I'm about 15 games into my season and I've seen probably 20 wild pitches total. None by me. Xbox version.

Cool- I will have to monkey around with it and see if I can find a happy medium.  Up for a game one of these days?

Definitely. If I see you on, I'll send a game invite.
