Homeowner Sues After Finding New Home Soaked In Urine (http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/4334705/detail.html)
Workers Accused Of Urinating Inside House

UPDATED: 2:44 pm EST March 31, 2005

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- Homeowners shelled out thousands of dollars for a new house only to find parts of the home soaked in urine by construction workers, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported.

Bradley and Maggie Parker thought they had their dream house, but what they discovered was a nightmare.

The Parkers had Ryan Homes build their house. But while visiting, they found pools of urine on the floor, seeping under walls. They said the urine was left by construction workers who didn't want to walk to the nearest portable toilet about a quarter mile away.

"It was throughout a lot of areas in the home," said Bradley Parker.

After finding the urine, the Parkers didn't want to move in, so they asked for their $5,000 deposit back.

They said Ryan Homes refused, so they hired the Martin and Bailey law firm and filed suit.

"It was so shocking at first," Maggie Parker said. "Then it was an overwhelming feeling of disgust."

Ryan Homes sold the home to a woman who just learned of the claims of urine pools, the station reported.

She said Ryan Homes didn't tell her anything about the lawsuit.

Ryan MacCauley, of Ryan Homes, issued a statement Wednesday.

"We believe all statements of fact in the complaint are untrue."

After the first complaint, the company placed a portable toilet directly across the street and the Parkers said they were told at least one person responsible was fired.

Still, their deposit was not returned and the Parkers said the only place they'll be able to get relief is in the courtroom.

Now that is a great way to end the article.

Oh this is classic, I'll have to share it with everyone at the office tomorrow.  I'm surprised I didn't hear about it on the news or through the industry when they first filed suit.

Ryan is not a small builder nationally, but they aren't that big around here.  However, if you're getting your home built by a large homebuilder that uses, uh, 'grey area' labor, this isn't an uncommon thing.   Drywallers are the worst.. they build boxes out of the scrap and leave it there for the Construction Manager, or worse the homeowner, to find.   The reasoning they give more often than not is they don't want to use the portalets, they smell too bad and are disgusting.  Their way is much better.

At least they aren't leaving thier little boxes in between the walls when they are done.   :-)

A friend of mine had a house built by one of the local builders, one that pretty much puts up probably 50% of the houses in this area. He goes out to the building site one day and sees some of the workers drinking beer, and putting the beer cans in the framing of the house to rest the beers. Next day, he comes back and the sheet rock has been hung. He bitched a fit, finally making them check the sheet rock around the area where the beer cans had been seen. Once the sheet rock is breached, a HALF-FULL can of beer is found sitting in the space between the walls. Now just imagine that fermented goodness sitting and stewing in the walls of a house during the hot ass Mississippi summer for a few months and the smell that would bring, not to mention the critters.

If you have a house built, WATCH YOUR BUILDERS.

I've done a bit of remodeling in the past few years, One thing I like to do is take an envolope and write "Drug Money" on it. and fill it with newspaper cut the size of dollarbills.

Then place this envelope in a wall. I figure in 75 years someone will be in for some disappointment.
