Title: The Argent Dawn Faction
Post by: Paelos on March 30, 2005, 07:29:40 AM
Information on this faction is pretty spotty, although in the recent patch they said they've put in "rewards" if you are exalted/reverevd. So far, this is what I know about the faction, if you could fill in the gaps that would help.

- The Argent Dawn fights the undead
- They give you a commission, which is a trinket that allows you to loot scourgestones off undead
- The scourgestones can be turned in for Argent Dawn Valor Tokens which when used, minorly boost your rep with them
- Certain scourgestones are harder to obtain, but you need less of them to turn in. In all cases you get the same amount of valor tokens
- When friendly with the Dawn, you can use the quartermaster, who will start selling you manna biscuits (large health and mana regen food)

Does anyone know what the upper level prizes are? Does anybody have any more information about cool stuff you can get from the Dawn, or the best place to hunt scourgestones. Thanks.

At Friendly, you can repair at their quartermaster. At Honored, you can buy Manna Biscuits and a transmute recipe. At Revered, you can buy Major Mana (and health i think) potions and once you hit revered the guy offers you a shoulder enchant at the cost of 15 argent dawn tokens. You can choose +5 to all resists, or +10 to an individual one.

You receive faction points by killing any undead up till friendly. From there, Scholomance and Stratholme runs raise it along with tokens (which I would save). At honored, killing Scholo/strat bosses and turning in tokens are the only way to advance as far as I know...at revered who knows.

Interesting. I was wondering about this because I just got their trinket last night. Now, at least I know I can look forward to some tasty biscuits. Yay.

Argent Dawn is interesting.  In the back of my mind I know all I'm doing is wacking foozles for faction.  This is something I vowed I'd never do again after having killed my Karana faction in EQ. (As a druid of Karana this was a bad thing.)  But the token, the visible progress through ranks and token gains and the RP aspects of it turn it from a chore into something more.  Much like most of the other events and quests in WoW.

Oh, and yeah, Slayer, I believe the way you laid it out is the only way of raising faction at the moment. At revered it might even become only tokens can be used to raise it, but I'm not certain.

I believe I read somewhere that the highest lvl cauldron quest where you put the alchemy items into the cauldron is repeatable and good at boosting Argent Dawn faction.

If that smoking fast WoW xp bar makes you miss the good old Everquest days of almost imperceptible pixel-by-pixel bar movement, you will love factioning up AD

That's pretty accurate.

For me, I just do stuff I normally do and I'm almost honored just from running instances.  Make sure you equip yer trinket if you hit Stratholme or Scholomance so that the undead will drop their stones.

Oddly enough, I just did my first AD quest this morning in Desolace (staff of light iirc).... and I AM undead so that's a little odd.

Going to do the next one soon (involving naga).

I just hope they get the Ravenholt faction fixed so I can continue that path with my rogue.

Here is a some more detailed info.

You gain faction by killing scourge with your argent dawn token equiped.
You gain faction from all kills up to friendly.
You gain faction from all elite kills up to half way through Honored.
You gain faction from all boss mob kills.
You should save your Scourge Stones till you are halfway through honored, becasue after the halfway mark the only way to raise your faction is to turn in scourge stones for the tokens, and also for using the tokens.

The tiny amount of faction you get from handing in a scourge stone is going to make that last factioning so painful as to put and EQ grind to shame.

I'm about 10% away from revered just from running strath and scholo, i never paid any attention to it before.  Now that there is rewards to be had ive been trying to grind it and its become a pain in the ass, i think im just going to keep ignoring it and ill get exalted eventually.

I don't want to start a thread for this so I hope you don't mind if I ask it here.

I notice that in the faction menu there is the option to click "at war".  Has anyone tried this?  Why would you do it?

Clicking "at war" lets you attack friendly npcs of that faction, the only time ive had reason to do that was while doing the centaur faction quests in desolace.

At a guess, the Argent Dawn probably considers the Scourge its enemy, not necessarily all undead.  I believe I heard that there's actually an undead member of the Dawn, so chances are that they have no beef with the Forsaken... or at least, they don't until Sylvanas' plan comes to fruition.

There is in fact an undead member of the Dawn at Light's Hope Chapel in E. Plaguelands. He gives a little speech about why he's there. I found it pretty cool.

I'm not sure, but my impression of Argent Dawn is the more realistic version of the Scarlet Order.  Scarlet kills anything undead or anything remotely associated with undead or anything that kills Scarlet.  Ok, they kill anything not Scarlet.

AD just works against evil and I guess not all undead are evil.  Yes, there is an undead high ranking member of AD.  Of course there is an undead Scarlet NPC, but he is hidden in the monastery for his crime of being undead and is deemed an embarassment.

I had to use this to attack the bruisers in Gadgetzan, so they would kill me, when I got stuck behind a wall while trying to jump onto the roof.

Also, if you go at war with booty bay, and farm the bruisers there, your faction will drop really low, and your Bloodsail faction will raise. Once you raise your bloodsail faction far enough, you can get a quest from the bloodsail captain on the ship, that gives a cloth pirate hat with +20 stam and the ability to summon a parrot.

Interesting.  I may do that just to be different.

It would be a PITA, though, not to be able to use the griffins or the boat in booty bay unless you laid waste to the town.

I'd make sure you finish the Mithril Order quests first if you plan on being a blacksmith.  Some of that runs through BB.

I was thinking of crushing my Gobbie faction when I hit level 60 :) If I need to use the boat, I'm pretty good at using the pet to grab a ton of aggro, slipping through, and feigning death in a safe spot. Monk-pulling experience, though the WoW FD timer is a wee bit slow (actually wicked slow!).

I'd say the response about the AD fighting the Scourge, not undead, is accurate. The undead questing and ingame fiction is all about the rift between the Forsaken of Sylvanis and the Scourge of that Scourgy cat whom I can't recall.

Thanks for the tip on hoarding scourgestones, though. Make sense, given how little faction they give up at low levels.

I just hit revered with argent dawn the other night after a baron run.  It gave me a quest from the argent dawn shop guy to turn in 10 valor tokens, after i completed it i was able to buy armor patches for my shoulders that added +5 to one resist.  Also limited supply mayor mana/health potions where for sale, as well as upgraded food and drink.  I believe the juice gave back 4500 mana or so and gave a 10 spirit buff, the food gave about half that in health and a 10str buff.  Only thing i found usefull where the potions, and i guess i did need more arcane resist but i dont see +5 as a meaningfull upgrade.
