Title: Selling items for fun and profit!
Post by: Paelos on March 24, 2005, 02:38:54 PM
I just wanted to start a thread for the people out there who are using the AH to try and get by. Mainly I want this to be a list of the types of items that you recognize as good sellers. For example:

1) Green Iron Hauberk - Every one of these that I've made has sold between 3-8g
2) Ornate Mithril Helm - Everyone needs plate helms, and this has a crit bonus.
3) 40+ Cloth drops - They don't net a bunch, but they will move at a good price point, usually 2-3x starting amount

Feel free to include things you notice that are selling for reference points. Thanks!

Every random drop item for crafting sells real well.

Breath of Wind, Core of Earth, Heart of Fire, Blue Sapphire, Azerothian Diamond etc etc. They go for 6-8g each on my server (Stormreaver)

My coworkers tell me they make lots of money selling herbs, of all things. Goldthorn, Swifthistle, Wild Steelbloom and all that.

Green Iron Hauberk sells so well because once Hunters and possibly Shaman get Mail, that is one of the highest armor value armors we can wear.

Usually quest items from the appropriate tradeskills sell pretty good. From engineering, Deadly Blunderbuss, Gyrochronatom, Mithril Casing, and Advanced Target Dummy are quest items.

For leatherworking, I would bet that the Green Leather Armor that is used to make the Hauberk would sell well.

Anything of the Monkey should seel to both Hunters and Rogues. Anything Rogue related should sell well as a crap ton of people play Rogues. I know that on Bleeding Hollow the Horde Auction House never has any daggers in it.

Most gathering tradeskills sell pretty good. I have sold every stack of Mageweave I have put up for sale. Sold a stack of silver bars a few days ago and before that a stack of Coarse stone.

I love of the monkey. Get it on anything leather or a 1-handed sword/mace/dagger and that baby will sell for much more than it should.

Green Iron Helms also sell ok.

Most herbs are great sellers.

Wildvine gets about 1 gold each.

Agility and heal potions do pretty well.

Engineering high levels + Enchanting looks like it'll work pretty well.  Even with the 'added' materials to the green lens it's still a pretty low-cost blue item to make and disenchant for large shards. Mineral prices on my server (for the lower minerals like copper, tin, iron and even mithril)  have been dropping as well, so it's pretty easy to take a high-level char and grind the cash/ items to buy for raising engineering.   Enchanting is, of course, still a huge money sink but all you're after is the disenchant skill, which as far as I know works on all levels of items.. until the devs figure that one out.

You wont ever have money if you do engineering/enchanting.

Selling mooncloth is very profitable - I can get between 15 and 20 g per piece of cloth.

Yeah, but unless you have multiple alts leveled up to purify mooncloth, it isnt exactly the greatest cash racket in the game.  The 4 day per piece timer rather kills it dead.

Hell, if you are a tailor, you would probably make money faster by picking up skinning, leveling it to 300 (easily done if you are 60) and farming Runecloth/Rugged leather to make Runecloth Bags.  i have never failed to sell a ruecloth bag for less then 2 gold each, and you could probably flood the market with them rather fast if you were dedicatedly trying.

I just sold Cone of Earth for two gold each. I do not know if the price is just right or to low but I have made 16 gold so I don't complain. Also runecloth bags sell for 3 to 4 gold on my server.

2 - 2 1/2 on mine.  It's really just about watching the market.  For instance, I noticed that there was no arcanite or thorium up for the weekend so I cleaned my bank out.  Earned 5g/stack of thorium (up from 3g/ the previous week) and 30g/bar of arcanite (a cool 10g profit on arcane crystals).
