Our little v6 drag car won the first race of the season with a 10.5 sec 1/4 mile. Here are a few pics of our launches. Whens the last time you saw a v6 do this?

Why it is twisting left?

Because we have drivetrains and gears.

I think that is probably engine torque twising the frame.  Those engines can allpy such a strong twisting force to the drive train that the entier body of the car warps around like a towel wringing out!

How much horsepower is that thing putting to the rear wheels?

Short answer:  Torque.

Slightly longer answer:  See Furiously and Miguel's posts above.

Answer with more detail than you probably want:
Newton's third law of motion - "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
To make the wheels turn so the car goes forward, the engine's output shaft needs to tun the transmission input shaft counterclockwise.  There is resistance to this force proportional to the car's mass, transmission drag, and tire friction, several other factors etc.  Its a pretty large amount of force.
So the engine needs to turn the shaft counterclockwise (as viewed from the diver seat) ... this means there is an equal force trying to turn the engine (and thus the car, since the engine is bolted into the car's body) clockwise. 
Theres the body lean to the right.
Theres several more sets of forces involved, accounting for more of the leans, and lifting of the front end.

Large trucks lend to twist, and sometimes pick up the left front tire, usually while starting to move while heavily loaded.  Same principle.

With the 100 shot of gas about 490 but were gonna install the anti roll bar this week and boost it to a 200 shot of gas should put us in the 9 second 1/4 mile range :-D

  Also because the 80's Mustangs and Camaros/Firebirds had the shittiest frame setup of any kind of "muscle" car to date. Pontiacs sure are sexy though.

That's hard enough to do with a v8...I feel sorry for that shitty little v6.

FYI: Up until the '05 remodel, Mustangs' frames were about as rigid as Jell-O.

Those of you with front wheel drive cards may have already experienced this, albeit without the wheelie effect. Many front wheel drive cars will "torque steer" when you stomp on the gas -- i.e the wheels and therefore the steering wheel will turn to the right or left under hard acceleration.

From my understanding, "Torque steer" is actually the inability of the car to self-center while a decent amount of gas is on...

Then again, I don't think I would ever drive a FWD vehicle.

Trippy and Strazos are both right with regard to the definition of torque steer, you get it any car where you are putting the power through the same wheels as the steering, and the effect is that some of the power goes into pushing the wheels off centre rather than into pushing the ground under the car as quickly as possible.

It has little relevance here, because you can't steer a car when its front wheels aren't on the ground.

However, to coin a phrase...

Hell thats with subframe connectors. Were gonna be adding anti roll bars and a cross brace this week.

That little v6 has forged rods, pistons, and crank and can hold about 700 hp. :-D

We're toying with the idea of forgoing the extra 100 shot of nitrous and slapping on a T-trim blower that should push it to around an 8 second car. :-o

What class are you running? Bracket racing I assume? Im no expert on drag racing, but my dad has been racing up here for about the last eight years, so Ive picked up on it some.

At Fun Ford Weekend well be tunning Brackets and True Street class. That was at the V6 Ford Challenge in Steele Alabama  last weekend had one other v6 mustang running in the 10s with us and a few 11 sec cars. As above.. we won even though one car, a twin turboed Mustang, ran a 10.31 he redlighted during eliminations clearing the way to a smooth victory.

Congrats, Dark! Throw some neon on that bitch, shave your head and start talking like a smarter Sly Stallone and you too could be in the movies, y0!
