Title: Derry Girls
Post by: NowhereMan on October 09, 2019, 03:14:48 AM
I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere on the board so thought I'd throw out a recommendation. It's a single season, 6 episode thing so very short but very funny/nostalgic show about a group of 15 year old teenage girls from Derry during the early 90s. It's sitcom level realism (so not very) but if you have any Irish connections you'll recognise everything more or less immedaitely. If you enjoyed Father Ted you'll probably really like this too.

I'm guessing Ironwood has already seen and enjoyed it.

From the title I thought this was going to be an It spinoff.

if you're gonna call something Derry Girls it better be about the girls who made fun of Bev and how they die or I'm not fuckin watching it.

Two seasons. We loved it. Probably extra resonant for a) anyone raised Cathollic b) anyone who grew up in a conflict zone of some sort.

I'd add c) have an Irish heritage.

I have (half) Irish heritage, thought both season are excellent.  Some episodes are a little flat (end of season one), but pick back up and it's worth it to stick with it all the way to the end of season two.  Irish accents/grammar can be hard to understand if you aren't used to it.
