Title: Finally finished planescape torment
Post by: Riggswolfe on March 13, 2005, 08:50:18 AM
Yeah, I know, old game. Heh. I never got it when it originally came out but finally bought a used copy from Amazon a couple of months ago.

Man, that was a dark ending. Not at all the typical generic RPG ending. Too bad the studio that made it is gone. That would be an interesting game to see a sequel too. God, a game that starts in the blood wars...

I liked it. My only problem with it is I didn't see alot of replay value in it. (unlike say Fallout 1&2 which I've replayed probably a dozen times each)

I've yet to play it again (and my first run through was at least 3-4 years ago now), and I agree that the replay value is sort of limited.  However, I put it in the same category with fun adventure games and good novels:  Every once in a while, you'll want to pick it up again and refresh your memory.  I think I'll be giving it another play through shortly.

Despite the fact that I only played it once, its still my favorite RPG that I've ever played.  I think that replay value is cool and all, but not necessary to a great game.

I agree. It was an awesome game don't get me wrong. I just kinda wish it had more...options. More replay value. I suppose I can try a different Nameless One build at some point...

Hmm, if you didn't play a mage, then you may want to the second time around.  If you have a lot of intelligence and wisdom, you get a lot of great bonus plot elements and dialogue options.

Actually I did. My intelligence, wisdom, and charisma all ended in the mid 20s with my physical stats at 9 or 10.

When I was playing it, I made the mistake of picking up D2 while about half way through.

Additive gameplay > Story for me it seems.

I still dream of finishing though, one of the few older games that I still have around.

I've played through the game probably 4 times. I fucking love it.

Still preferred Fallout 2 tho.  Couldn't quite say why, either.  Maybe it was the fact that dying mattered, or maybe it was the bigger scope of the game.

Maybe also I just couldn't stand the Planescape setting.  Yeah, that's probably it.

I'm pretty sure it is because SPECIAL is the greatest turn-based RPG system ever.

Oh, and because of the fallout boy drawings.

I really liked how you picked up special titles too.  Took me a while to figure out why I had 'graverobber'.  Apparently, it was because I was, er, robbing graves.

What can I say ?  I needed the medpacks.

It was ALL just classy.  A Golden Age of Gaming.

The bold text made me chuckle.  Dying does kind of matter you know, in a game that has DEATH as its major theme.

I'd be hard pressed to choose between PS:T and Fallout 2.  Both had their merits.  PS:T was a mile less buggy, which was appreciated.  Fallout 2 is well... Fallout.    PS:T was better written but a tad loquacious.  I could debate this internally for a day and not come up with a resolution.

I really should get the disks back from my brother and replay them.  Ohh wait, can't.  Still haven't kicked that bad WoW habit.
