It was garbage and a terrible waste of Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Haven't seen part 2 yet, but that is not a surprise. The 3rd book was miles worse than the first 2.

Was he somehow actually in it, or was it like a hologram of PSH instead?

I've seen no good reviews of this from people I know who've seen it, yet it still has a 71 on RT from Viewers and Critics. Looks like it's time to distrust RT entirely, since those viewer reviews are all from "super reviewers" whatever the fuck that is.

All 3 books were pretty bad , the 3rd was awful. Someone needs to give Katniss a prozac.

The last third of the last book was just phoned-in dreck, even compared to the rest of the book, which was bad compared to the other two, which were only just barely passable as YA sci-fi to begin with.

So I expected the movie that was nothing but that material to be shit, as soon as I heard they were splitting it.

I finally just watched the first movie a few weeks ago. It was fucking awful on just about every level. You're telling me they got worse?

The first two movies are just really terrible versions of Battle Royale. As are the books apparently. The latter two movies are COMPLETE HORSESHIT.

There's plenty of good YA fiction out there, what fucking made this shit stick out? Better marketing?

I think you guys need to consider a couple facts.  Maybe I am wrong, but the Battle Royale book or whatever?  Very few people actually know what that is, I suspect, so the idea with HG was fairly novel to most people.  Second, the first book honestly seemed to be competently written.  Third, this was aimed at women, and they got themselves a heroine who basically kicks all the asses and probably save the world while she's at it, not to much all the hunky love triangle stuff.  There was no way it wasn't going to be big.  It was like twilight, except with enough cool action to suck in some of the male demographic, and also the YAs.

It couldn't be worse than Mockingjay Part 1, which largely involved people sitting in a bunker talking about the best way to shoot propaganda videos and ended with a daring rescue which happened off-screen. I know that's partly because it's the adaptation of only half a book but that doesn't make it a better film.

I enjoyed the first Hunger Games. They were lucky to have Jennifer Lawrence, as she seems to be a pretty good actress and made the whole thing much easier to believe in.
