Title: Dad's Army Post by: DraconianOne on August 12, 2015, 03:37:56 PM One for UK folk of a certain age...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nig2SQk6jx4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nig2SQk6jx4) I have no idea why they decided to remake this because it was archaic even when I watched it as kid. I feel slightly affronted that they even try to replace the likes of Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier and Clive Dunn but if you're going to try then getting Toby Jones, Bill Nighy and Michael Gambon in is not a bad start. For youngsters and non-UK folk, Dad's Army was a BBC sitcom about the British Home Guard set in WW2. It ran for 9 years from 1968 and is one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. It exemplifies BBC light entertainment. Whether it was any good or not is a moot point because, for better or worse, it is ingrained in British culture. Like "Only Fools And Horses", "Paddington" and "Mr Benn".* *I may have been lying about that last one. Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: IainC on August 12, 2015, 04:19:34 PM Jesus. I have no idea what long-felt need they think they are tapping into with that. I can only imagine that they couldn't get the rights to It Ain't 'Alf 'Ot Mum! or The Good Life.
Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: HaemishM on August 12, 2015, 04:45:15 PM I look forward to seeing the exploits of Mrs. Bucket on the big screen next.

Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: Setanta on August 13, 2015, 02:55:48 AM I'm in two minds. I watched it as a kid and happily forgot it. There was no need for a film but the modern casting... I'm wondering if I'm mad because I almost want to watch it. Surely the humour will be lost on modern audiences.
What's next, the Goodies? They'd better leave Blackadder alone - it should never be remade as it was perfect as is. Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: rattran on August 14, 2015, 06:26:54 AM I can't wait for a Clangers film.
Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: Rendakor on August 14, 2015, 01:58:25 PM ITT: British folks type random words and pretend they were TV shows.
Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: Sir T on August 14, 2015, 03:32:35 PM I'm sure "The Likely Lads" could be made as a sensitive comedy film about male friendly relations in an uncaring world.
Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: Shannow on August 14, 2015, 04:57:11 PM fuck me.
When's the 'Allo Allo' remake coming. :ye_gods: Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: Ironwood on August 15, 2015, 03:34:40 AM I'd be up for a Grimdark 'Allo 'Allo. Sexy, dangerous, vicious.
Herr Flick would be a lethal Gestapo murderer with Helga as his Dom. Renee would basically just run a whorehouse full of nasties under the control of his shrewish wife who keeps her mother tortured and insane in the attic and Von Smallhousen....well, I've never really understood what Von Smallhousen brought to the table to be honest. Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: rattran on August 15, 2015, 05:36:41 AM Wasn't that Secret Army (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Army_%28TV_series%29)?
Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: Ironwood on August 15, 2015, 05:50:45 AM Hmmm, that's a new one on me...

Title: Re: Dad's Army Post by: eldaec on August 15, 2015, 03:33:44 PM I thought Michael Gambon as Godfrey in the trailer was really impressive for some reason.
