Fuck you if you aren't excited about this and I don't care if it's just an announcement! This is pretty much my favorite anime series of all time and I think it could be fucking amazing if done right. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Dragonball. What else? (Airbender isn't anime!) Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Rendakor on March 25, 2015, 08:56:34 PM Speed Racer and Guyver were the other two bad ones (besides DB) that came immediately to mind.
Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: SurfD on March 25, 2015, 11:00:40 PM Except that Speed Racer was actually pretty good, at least in my opinion.
Didnt even realise they did a Guyver movie. Must have been spectacularly bad if I had never even heard of an adaptation. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: satael on March 25, 2015, 11:01:58 PM Quote Michael Gordon (300, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra) set to provide the screenplay. shudder :oh_i_see: Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Merusk on March 26, 2015, 04:00:48 AM The Guyver movie was in the 80s or 99s and had Jimmy Walker and Mark Hamill. I've only seen clips and they were all dire.
Quote Michael Gordon (300, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra) set to provide the screenplay. shudder :oh_i_see: yeah, this is going to be utter crap. Another example of clueless execs mining IP archives hoping to find gold. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. All You Need is Kill / Edge of Tomorrow was a nice adaption (though it was technically from a manhwa instead of manga) and showed that you can actually do a good scifi movie from a manga/manhwa if you have a decent writer like Christopher McQuarrie (among other things). This is pretty much my favorite anime series of all time and I think it could be fucking amazing if done right. Yup its starting to come back to life. Palladium books is just releasing a robotech tactical miniature game as well so starting to see more movement on the robotech front again which is really nice because I enjoyed this franchise a ton over the years. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: HaemishM on March 26, 2015, 09:01:57 AM You just know those bitches are going to cast Rhianna or Beyonce as fucking Minmei or some shit, and we will get treated to some seriously shitty music as a result of whatever this becomes.
This is a job for Michael Bay. :oh_i_see: Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: angry.bob on March 26, 2015, 09:35:00 AM THis will probably be almost as bad as the first Robotech movie. No, not the one you're thinking of that's set right after the Macross arc. The one that was spliced together using Megazone 23 and a couple other shows and was in theaters in the late 80's.
This will be an okay SCI Fi movie when taken by itself, but as an updated "robotech" movie it will be shit and leave out everything that made the show memorable, enjoyable, and groundbreaking to American audiences. If the final product doesn't tur out to be something that would have been improved if Micheal Bay had been involved I'll be shocked. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Fordel on March 26, 2015, 01:48:40 PM This is just going to make it even more impossible for me to get actual Macross things here... and it's already pretty much impossible.

This is a job for Michael Bay. :oh_i_see: That's pretty much what Minemei was, so it would be accurate. :why_so_serious: Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: sickrubik on March 26, 2015, 02:17:13 PM It seems casting a mega pop star to play a mega pop star is perfect casting.
Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Ingmar on March 26, 2015, 02:26:54 PM Also, you should be so lucky to get one of that caliber.
Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Teleku on March 26, 2015, 05:50:48 PM Go Macross or go home.
Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Evildrider on March 26, 2015, 06:25:02 PM Also, you should be so lucky to get one of that caliber. So someone like Arianna Grande or Miley Cyrus? :why_so_serious: Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Morat20 on March 26, 2015, 06:29:50 PM I suppose it says a lot about my taste in women when, as a kid, I couldn't for the LIFE of my understand why anyone would want to date Minmei when you could be dating Lisa Hayes.
I did marry the smart brunette. No giant robot ship was included, sadly. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Evildrider on March 26, 2015, 06:33:36 PM Rick and Minmei were closer to the same age, plus she was supposed to be popular and hot. Lisa was older and kind of a bitch.
Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Merusk on March 26, 2015, 06:56:22 PM she was awful insecure and angsty for a woman so successful. Never quite got that until I was older.
Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: jgsugden on March 26, 2015, 10:51:41 PM I'd love to see a real good version of this concept hit the screen, but nothing I've heard so far gives me confidence.
Nicki Minajmei. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. She could sing the final song then bend over and shoot a particle beam out her ass stronger than the SDF-1. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Teleku on March 27, 2015, 04:24:14 PM Yes, I do so want to see the modern recreation of this scene:

Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: Teleku on March 27, 2015, 08:30:33 PM Did that ever make it into robotech? Can't remember. That's actually from the Macross Movie, which is where they sort of retold the events of the series in a very abbreviated form, with some plot changes. But same shit happened in the series also. But nothing as 'epic' as that scene. :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Robotech Franchise. Post by: HaemishM on March 27, 2015, 08:33:44 PM I'm just thinking of the first time Minmei sang to the aliens and they were all like "ANIMESURPRISEFACE!!!!!!" and shit. I didn't watch the whole scene you posted, just enough to know what was going to happen. My memories of it are fuzzy on the details but the cringing is real.
