Title: Predestination Post by: Khaldun on January 09, 2015, 08:08:00 PM New movie out this week. Was surprised to see it pop up as a rental on FIOS at a good price. (Cheaper than taking three people to see it in the movie theater.)
Based on a Heinlein time travel story, late-era Heinlein of a similar vein to Time Enough For Love. Which for Heinlein readers gives you a big hint. I liked it way more than I expected to, though it's a bit like an extended episode of The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror. Sort of like Looper meets Jeffrey Eugenides' novel Middlesex. Dunno why I spoilered that, anyone enough of a Heinlein geek to have read Expanded Universe spotted it right away. Although it actually would have been fairly early Heinlein (late 50's, I think). --Dave Title: Re: Predestination Post by: Khaldun on January 10, 2015, 10:45:50 AM Yup, based on All You Zombies. And you're right, it's earlier than I thought. Not sure why I thought it was a later story. Has some of his late-era affectations so I guess that's it.

This finally made its way to my Netflix DVD queue. As a fan of the original story I was pleasantly surprised (after A Sound of Thunder I get really nervous about movie adaptations of classic sci-fi short stories). The movie layered some fun extra stuff onto the original story and didn't fuck with the core elements that made the story good. Worth watching.
