Title: Krypton
Post by: Evildrider on December 08, 2014, 08:51:27 PM
Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.

Coming Soon to SyFy!

Ok, DC just stop... stop it.  Stop it.   :uhrr:

Is this supposed to be a metaphor?

"Look how pointless it is to fight for equality!  They'll just blow it all up in a few generations!"

Because what the world needs is another Gotham to mess with the mythos. Wait, I don't care about Superman. Carry on.

Gotham is a bad show.  This one sounds even worse.

This sounds really stupid.

Restrictions brought by the Superman IP and none of the characters that would make it worthwhile. I'm sure that SyFy could have gotten some real scifi book's rights alot cheaper and with more creative control not to mention a decent plot (that would have the same or almost the same premise).  :oh_i_see:

WTF is up with networks putting out shows about a superheroes world without the superhero?  That's like reality TV without white trash!  I'm going to go ahead and say Jor-El is an environmental scientist with grim news BUT NO ONE WILL LISTEN!

There really isn't much of an interesting story to tell there, IMO. Not that Syfy could have told an interesting story anyway.

Superman is irrelevant to the story.  I'll wait to see what they come up with before I trash it, but the premise, by itself, does not grab me.  It sounds like a series that would run out of steam quickly.

It's SyFy. If the show doesn't run out of steam quickly, it will be cancelled after three or four seasons anyway.

Forgive my possible lack of nerd knowledge, but weren't all Kryptonians totally normal while on Krypton?  As in no super powers whatsoever?  I thought they just had advanced  (and for some reason big, crystal shard-based) science/technology.

If so then what the hell is interesting about Krypton pre-Superman's birth?

I was always more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan so I may be missing something obvious.

I think you nailed it.

If you take away all references to Superman, this is a future-ish society on the edge of calamity.  Superpowers are at a minimum, but they'll probably play some part.  That could just as well be a description of Caprica.

So, Caprica then.

MAYBE this could work. I don't hate Gotham. But not about Krypton unless they retcon the whole thing to where Kryptonians are all supermen. But no amount of genius can save the other problem: SyFy.

BSG was Syfy and good. It can happen and the have recently acknowledged that they made theasy wrong call abandoning hard scifi...

Yes, but BSG was the exception to the rule (and did they even ever air Razor? Or did that go direct to DVD/download?)

I do find it promising they acknowledged their mistake though. I want better sci fi. For now, CW seems the best bet :-)

BSG only counts as half credit because the last season and a half was all sorts of suck.

But they were ANGELS.  I think.

They may have admitted their mistake, but their recent holiday 2 days of CSI makes me think they didn't correct it.

This sounds like they wanted to do a series based on Gladiator but didn't get the rights.

Or we will have a tits and sorcery-sci-fi version of game of thrones as opposed to tits and sorcery-magic.

But still tits though right?
