Trailer now up. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skpu5HaVkOc) Looks as entertainingly ridiculous as the last few.

It's like a comic book movie, but self-aware.

BE THERE.

Soo going to see this.  I am glad it's just as ridiculous as ever.   :awesome_for_real:

It's just a grown-up version of Cars, isn't it?

They aren't fast anymore?

They aren't fast anymore?
Eh, why not.   They already did one movie where they weren't furious.  Gotta keep things balanced.

The fast guy died and the rest are furious as a result?

Opening weekend. I love this goofy shit.

Last one had a tank chase and the longest runway in the known universe.  Skydiving cars? Why the fuck not.

I am more excited about this movie than is reasonable. But Skydiving Cars? Done better with skydiving tanks using the cannon to "drive" it in the air.

I haven't seen 1-6 yet so I will have to skip it. I don't want to be baffled by the plot.

I've never seen one either, but I know enough to know that these are not films about plot.

They do use a bit of back story from the older movies.  You could probably get away with just watching 5 and 6 before this one, since this is the end of that 'trilogy'.  However 3 does take place after 6 and before 7.  lol

Post by: Trippy on February 06, 2015, 03:25:42 PM
It's probably better to not know the plot of the previous ones. That way you don't get confused by all the retconning that has taken place in the series.

It's ok, Way, I still get you. I'm in the same boat.

The first one is actually a solid movie. The second one is okay but suffers from sequalitis. Third one is a weird outlier that isn't really that much a part of the franchise.  4 is decent but not necessarily essential to the series.  5 and 6 they basically said fuck it and are ridiculously fun movies which is where I hope 7 is too.

Title: Re: Furious 7
Post by: MahrinSkel on February 08, 2015, 06:51:32 PM
The first one is essentially Point Break in cars. After that, it's progressively thinner excuses for progressively more over-the-top stunts. 3 is Karate Kid...in cars. If you are watching anything after 3 for anything but the stunt sequences, you're doing it wrong.

I checked out on 5 after the first big car chase/gas heist thing. My mind just wouldn't allow it.

There is no real reason to watch these movies after the first one with anything other than irony. I'm sure they are great drinking movies.

Post by: schild on February 09, 2015, 09:36:55 AM
I don't see a problem with "Fast, bullshit Car Stuff and Vin Diesel saying things" as a movie franchise. I don't know what your mind wouldn't allow, isn't Mississippi exactly like these movies, with shorter buildings?

Title: Re: Furious 7
Post by: HaemishM on February 09, 2015, 10:01:29 AM
Mississippi's roads couldn't possibly support the kind of driving these guys do ever. They'd have crashed headlong into a tree within two miles of the starting line provided their suspension held up that long. The Beirut has less goddamn potholes than our shitty what-we-call roads.

Watched it last night. Fun movie and they did pretty much the best they could have hoped for given the circumstances. Regardless of what one may think of Walker as an actor, the ending is a bit emotional just from the perspective of the cast paying tribute to someone they were obviously very close to.

They are already working on 8, with rumors being Kurt Russel as the big baddie.  Also Helen Mirren has stated a couple times recently that she wants to be in a Fast and Furious movie as long as she gets to drive.   :awesome_for_real:

I think they just said that Kurt Russell's role would be expanded, not that he would be the bad guy. He's more or less a good guy in this one.

Badass Trailer ending with "rated PG-13" is a bit

Took the wife and kid to see this tonight. The camera work/editing of the fights scenes was really fun.  I still think Five was the best film of the series. But this was better than the last one. Plus Nathalie Emmanuel is pretty.

lol *gets thrown, camera rolls with victim*  :why_so_serious:
I dunno, this show really went all out. Spared no intelligence, just full, balls on Diesel mode.
I really hate it when they stop the whole thing for some drama.
And the worst was the background music DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN accompanying the line like a trailer within a movie DUN DUN  is unfolding. DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

This movie is making bank at the box office though 68 million by Friday with a estimated 140 million over the weekend.  Crazy.

Paul Walkers Last Movie.   A metric shitton of people will watch it just because of that.

Obviously that helps bring people in who might have waited to watch it at home and front-loads the grosses for the opening weekend, but let's face it, there probably isn't a legion of Paul Walker fans who aren't at least casual fans of the F&F movies. Also the reviews and word of mouth for the movie have been pretty positive. People weren't exactly rushing out to see Brick Mansions last year.

Fast and the Furious is the best turn-off-your-brain shit franchise Hollywood has going.

It is over the top and silly and a lot of the story makes no sense but for what its trying to do it does very well and is an enjoyable turn your brain off enjoy the action sort of movie.

I don't think you need to turn your brain off because they never attempt to engage with it.

The thing that really amused me in it is why the jason statham character wanted that surveillance system at all. If you can find out where people are going to be far enough in advance to realize they are jumping out of a plane with GPS parachutes to land on a specific road in the middle of nowhere in enough time to make a specialty car to just flat drive there you probably don't need this technology.

At the risk of seeming like I take the plot seriously, Statham didn't want the God's Eye he was just partnering with the other bad guy because of their mutual enemies.

Whenever I feel my slow, purposeless life marching on towards death, I stop and remember that Vin Diesel is a big movie star so anything is possible.

What makes it even funnier is that after the first movie any little kid with matchbox cars could have came up with the stories.

And $800 Million dollars pretty much guarantees we will be seeing these until our lives end. I think we have a new James Bond franchise.

Just saw this with the missus - we'd both seen F&F and I'd hung around until #3. Having said that, it was a hell of a lot of fun, lots of entertainment that I didn't have to think about, fantastic stunts and so on. Just a decent film that entertained - and TBH, I liked that.

Kudos to the ending, really tasteful in terms of how they handled it - not over the top or anything and I can't help but wonder if Diesel wrote the final monologue.

I might go back and watch 4, 5 and 6 to fill in the blanks.

For such a mindless action flick, there were actually some pretty classy touches I thought.
Oddly, there is actual art to this film.  And yah, I choked up pretty bad at the end.  I'd say half the theatre I was in was crying.  Really great ending.  They deserve whatever they end up making for taking actual risks in moviemaking and giving the middle-finger to hollywood.  That's ultimately why people like these films I think.

Totally forgot about that.  The last movie was kinda forgettable, though I liked it enough.  I've been running around thinking either they just didn't care about Tokyo Drift or somehow Han survived.  :awesome_for_real:
