Title: Question about the mail system, potential disaster for me...
Post by: angry.bob on March 07, 2005, 05:04:51 PM
So, I've been using my mail box as an aux bank for crap I cherry pick at a low price from the auction house. I got careless and let the time expire on some stuff and 30 days rolled around on a full set of alabaster plate and even worse, a Taran Icebreaker that someone was dumb enough to put up with a 25 gold buyout. So the stuff is gone from my mailbox. And it didn't go back to the Auction house. And I didn't get any gold back...

Does anyone know what happens to the stuff in your mailbox if you let the time runout? Does it just dissappear?

Yeah it's gone for good. It's Blizzard's way of decluttering the database I guess. Only chance to get it back is from a GM ticket, but I don't know if they will actually do that. Sucks. :/

Lesson: don't use the mail as a surrogate bank.

Or if you do, keep the damn stuff in motion between an alt and your main. It only costs 40 copper to mail an item and returning it is free so that's 60 days of storage for less than half a silver. Also, beware that there is a limit to how much stuff your mailbox will display. You can lose track of items if they get buried too deep in your mail box. This may be what happened to the OP, it's worth checking at least. clean out some items then reload the mailbox and you may find items showing up that weren't there last viewing. I haven't counted but it's somewhere around 4 pages of items before things disappear.

Cheaters.

I wonder if that would work in reality.  I've got some extra crap it my basement that's taking up space.  Can I just mail it to myself over and over and have the post office hold onto it?
