Probably the best thing in the world to be associated with Microsoft, right behind that dog that taught you how to use MS Word, is the Xbox chat earpiece.  I tried a few shitty things before that gem arrived, and it really was fantastic.

The PS4 came with a earbud thing.  I don't like it.  However, researching PS4 chat devices is a minefield.  Anyone have any experience with this?

Pretty sure the connection is a standard 3 ring mic/headset jack. So any cellphone wired earpiece or headset should theoretically work. I agree with ya, the earbud is poop. Functional, barely.

Wireless would be nice.  The Xbox one really set the bar for me.

If I figure out anything, I'll come back with info.

All of the options are pretty shitty tbh.  I ended up grabbing the $80 playstation gold headset from Amazon.  Its ok and its wireless.

Let me elaborate and say I don't mind paying $80 if it really is a $80 headset.

It's a pretty nice headset.

I'm using it right now and it's decent sound quality. I haven't used the mic yet. It's a bit tight on my fat head so I may shop around for something bigger. There's a (limited edition) white version as well. There's a special app for it that loads special sound profiles into games optimized for the headset but I haven't tried that yet.

Note that a wired 7.1 version is coming out "this fall".

$70-80 for a headset, no matter how great, is nonsense in my world. Pay for quality sure, but for an item that'll get limited use? Not in my poor world.

That's only $10 - $20 more than a price of a game. And you'll use the headset a lot more than a single game.

I wear a headset for like 5+ hours a day, it would be hard to spend too much.

I think it goes to an Apple phone only I don't have an Apple phone.  Everyone here says it doesn't belong to them and it's in MY desk drawer so it must be mine.   :ye_gods:

Also, I don't think it works.  I looked for it online and you can get one for 4$.

Well that is different than buying a headset for a gaming system you casually play.  :grin:

I'm not sold on the idea of putting the game sound into the earmuffs.  I really just need the whiners coming through my earpiece.  I need to maintain auditory awareness outside the game.

Well if you have a Bluetooth earpiece lying around you could try that.

The only one I have is the 360 one, but why not try it, right?

I went through 3 different bluetooth headsets and they all made it past the pairing stage only to get shut down for not having any of the supported profiles.  I could be wrong but I don't think the PS4 supports bluetooth headsets or headphones right now.

Hmm...that's tempting. Note that the list price listed on Woot of $319.99 is a lie (Amazon does the same thing on the main site). The list price is actually $249.95 and the street price is around $150.00.

Edit: also you'll need a TRRS adapter if you want to use this through the PS4 controller
