Title: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: Evildrider on August 31, 2014, 11:35:54 AM Patrick Warburton and Ben Edlund have signed on to bring The Tick back to TV as one of Amazon's new shows. I'm excited, I hope they can bring back some more of the old cast.
Title: Re: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: Merusk on August 31, 2014, 11:43:12 AM That's awesome. Warburton has always wanted to revisit the character, and if asked about it in interviews gets pissed and describes exactly how Fox fucked-over the show.
Title: Re: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: jgsugden on August 31, 2014, 12:18:04 PM I'm definitely curious... Amazon and Netflix are going to get a lot of my attention in the next year or two, it seems....

Title: Re: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: Father mike on August 31, 2014, 10:28:43 PM I have never felt more justified in choosing Amazon Prime over Netflix than I do at this very moment.
Title: Re: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: Lakov_Sanite on August 31, 2014, 10:34:02 PM So how exactly did fox screw over the original? I'm sure they did but never read the story.
Title: Re: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: Evildrider on August 31, 2014, 10:45:47 PM I tried looking for something but didn't see anything. Although I got caught up in the Fappening, so I didn't try too hard.

I don't know about the actual series but the assholes cut an episode from the dvd out of fear of being sued. It was one of my favorite episodes too, the one with the Galacticus knock off.Title: Re: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: Merusk on September 01, 2014, 08:35:20 AM So how exactly did fox screw over the original? I'm sure they did but never read the story. Interview with Warburton here: http://animatedtv.about.com/od/gftriviaresources/a/warburton.htm He's repeated the story in several interviews I've heard over the years. I found that one on a Google search, but I've heard him asked on Conan, Tonight Show, Bob & Tom and the local rock station and it's always the same story, so he's nothing if not consistent. Relevant quote: Quote Patrick Warburton: They did mess with the time slots, but they did everything they could to kill the show. It turned out to be too expensive. "Messing with the time slots" is something Fox does when it wants a show it doesn't understand or feels is to expensive to tank. This was the most blatant example, and he's talked about how the 9 episodes aired were in 4 different time slots in those 9 weeks. There's no way a show will get decent ratings when you're doing that and ratings, as you know, are how a show lives or dies. Title: Re: The Tick returns to Amazon! Post by: Threash on September 01, 2014, 09:56:14 AM I don't understand why "we feel this show is too expensive" isn't enough.

As I understand it, it's a procedural thing -- the guy who wants to kill the show doesn't have the authority to kill it outright by fiat unless he can justify it by showing that it has bad ratings. He DOES have the authority to fuck around with when it's aired (within certain parameters), though, so he does that so that he can then demonstrate that the ratings are bad. |
