Title: Dominion. Post by: Evildrider on June 20, 2014, 12:44:44 AM This is that new show on SyFy that is the sequel to Legion. Pilot was on tonight and shamefully, I kinda liked it. Not sure if I'll last a full season, but I'll at least give it a few episodes.
Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: jgsugden on June 20, 2014, 07:12:49 AM After the bad reviews, I still decided to give it a chance. That lasted 3 minutes. The dialogue at the gate was the nail in the coffin. If it lives a season I might revisit it, but I'd rather rewatch another old series than watch this one right now.
Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Tebonas on June 20, 2014, 10:26:45 AM I liked it as well, it was leagues better than that godawful movie it was based on.
I found Anthony Steward Head really good with it an nobody else was distractingly bad yet. Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Bunk on June 22, 2014, 08:59:00 PM Anthony Stewart as an American Villain was odd, but still engaging. Not sure if the main actor can carry the show though. I'll give it a couple episodes to see where it goes.
The little girl freaks me out. Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Signe on June 23, 2014, 08:30:38 AM She has a really old face. I think she's awesome looking.
For some reason Anthony Head sounded like Matt Frewer in this. I watched all but maybe the last 15 minutes or so. A lot of the dialog sounded out of place and forced, mostly because of the writing but I didn't find many of the actors very compelling, either. The angel, Michael, reminded me of Keanu Reeves... mostly wooden. I didn't like Legion, either. I don't think it'll last unless it gets a lot better than what I watched last night. Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Numtini on June 26, 2014, 07:05:36 AM We got halfway through and felt kind of meh, then we started to pick the hell out of it and I'm not sure we're ever going to get to the other half. It's really dense and convoluted and the "world" doesn't seem well thought out. They treat children like shit, but breeding females are a trade object? They need a reactor, but the Hoover dam is obviously running or they wouldn't have water for their fountains. If "God has disappeared and we are at war with the angels, which you can shoot down with anti-aircraft guns" is the part of your world building that's the most logical, you've got some 'splaining to do.
Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Surlyboi on June 26, 2014, 10:58:50 AM Love the concept. Hate the execution. Like the girl with the old face. I think it speaks to how shitty life is for the lower classes in Vegas.
I'll give it a couple more episodes before I decide whether it's worth it or not. Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Margalis on June 29, 2014, 06:29:13 PM I liked it a fair bit. But I'm a sucker for religious-themed horror and religious-themed stuff in general. Not sure why, I guess the intersection of religious ideas with reality is a just a concept that appeals to me.
Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: HaemishM on July 03, 2014, 08:36:08 AM I've made it through two episodes and the more I think about it, the shittier it appears. The whole Roman-fascist motif is grating, the caste system doesn't make a whole lot of sense, they are particularly heavy-handed with some things like Anthony Head's character having been a televangelist. They have a great opportunity for some serious undertones about religion and belief, as well as the excuse to use some magic shit that looks cool but they piss it away on hackneyed cliches. One more episode may be enough to turn me away completely.
Also, when did SyFy get so determined to show ass? Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Tebonas on July 04, 2014, 02:53:52 AM I admit it gets worse with every episode. I guess I like the premise but it gets increasingly clear the execution can't deliver what the setup promises.

Even when they were a real science fiction network. (Though the trend of coming back around to even pop-fi over the last few years has been encouraging. Must've finally realized there were enough BRO networks.) That would generate too much pressure on advertisers to drop them from the zealots of this country. Sad, but true. As for ass: when nudity and partial nudity started paying off bigtime for HBO and Starz. Not much else to draw the women in here, but hot man ass? Sure. Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: HaemishM on July 04, 2014, 07:45:00 PM Yep, I'm done. This show started out kind of stupid and just got really really fucking stupid.
Apparently, mastermind rogue genocidal angels spend all their time brooding in a leftover set from a goddamn Anne Rice movie and playing the fucking trumpet. Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: kaid on July 07, 2014, 07:34:14 AM Well he is gabrial so clearly they had to show him playing a horn.
Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Signe on July 07, 2014, 08:34:53 AM Where is Christopher Walken? It did inspire me to watch The Prophecy last night and decided to leave it at that.
Title: Re: Dominion. Post by: Surlyboi on July 07, 2014, 09:59:53 AM Wrong franchise.
Though Viggo Mortensen was really good as Lucifer in that one. |
