the only thing this presentation had going for it was that it was technically competent. By competent I mean the machines demoing the games didn't fucking conk out like last year.

So the only thing in all that which interested me was DLC for a game I don't own. I guess the Division looks good as well, but I've got pretty much no hope that it's actually going to live up to what they've shown.

The Division looks exactly the fucking same as it did last year. Like not even the UI changed. Also no fucking way on earth it will look anywhere near that good on consoles.

Yeah the last one sounds interesting but this was the literal equivalent of that.

Revamping past glories is what the gaming industry is about these days.

Phantom Dust and Crackdown aren't really past glories. One was a cult classic among a small niche of people and the other is remembered as "That game that came with the Halo 3 demo".

I don't remember why I bought the original Phantom Dust. I think I got it in a trade-in at Gamestop half-accidentally to use like $6 leftover bucks or something. It ended up being my favorite game on the Xbox.

Well yeah, Xbox doesn't have much history to draw from.

That's the closest thing MS has to past glories once you move past Halo, Forza, and Gears of War.

The Division is going to be a perennial E3 demo. No way in hell it will be what they are showing. This is like the auto show's concept vehicles. What you will actually get will be 1/10 as awesome and you'll like it.

They already fooled us once with watchdogs.

Not much hope for anything interesting coming out of EA's or Ubisoft's press conferences. It's already been stated that there aren't going to be any Rocksmith related announcements so I don't need to bother watching Ubisoft. I'll only watch EA out of misguided hope of hearing anything Mass Effect related.

I just want to see what BethSoft is doing.  Fallout or Elderscrolls would both make me happy, althought Fallout more so.  Rest of this shit I've heard of, was expecting anyways, or don't have a new console to play it on.  There's very little, outside of an exclusive Shadow Hearts reboot, that would get me running to a store for a console at the moment.  

I feel like a see a ton more turn based then I used to. But I only pay attention to pc games.

FE was NOT worth playing, even after I got it for free. It still used the shitty engine from the prior game which had all kinds of nonsense about how the game played in it.  Couldn't stand the slow-ass pace combined with the terrible research and city building methods.  The Turn-based combat was the only decent thing and even that was too easy to cheese.

Many of those I didn't realize were TBS, so now I need to check them out.

It's been in beta for a year now, with a new block of features coming in every 2-3 months. Today the Living Lore feature went online.

Does it... have players? Because honestly, it looks like LoL at launch. And not in a good way.

All I can really say to that is "yes." It managed to impress Total Biscuit, for whatever that's worth.

They're not trying to push it to a huge audience yet because it's still being built and tweaked.

I'm not sure there's much of an audience to chase that isn't already enamored with DOTA2 or LoL.    It's like trying to compete with WoW and WoW's more popular brother. Good luck.

They're really not. The Community Manager (ex-Paragon, ex-Mythic) has organized a network of featured Twitch streamers, and they've drawn in a few streamers with a big audience.

But it's all word-of-mouth driven. The marketing budget has been accurately described as "a rounding error."

I've been playing Dawngate pretty regularly for the past 2 months. Queues are always near-instant, so I'm assuming it has a decent player pool.

I like it. The client has a very polished look, gameplay feels more responsive than other MOBAs, and having the 2 lanes with 5 players set up means you don't end up with the same stale lane combinations over and over. You don't just see support + ADC as the only duo lane, and always bot, because some combination of two characters will have to duo the top lane as well. Characters do fall into certain roles that they are stronger at, but the Role system does let you do some unconventional stuff if you want to. Not uncommon to see very offensive characters playing as support (tactician) and making it work, or a mage jungling, etc.

I got so sick of the same stale meta in current MOBAs that it's been very refreshing to play a game where each lane doesn't feel like the same thing every match. I'll frequently see games with 2 ADCs on the same team, or an ADC and a mage in a lane instead of a conventional support character, etc.

Eh, it's just a feeling I get, could be completely off base (it's not like I've played it or anything).  They're both about discovering weird new aliens, flying around in a spaceship to visit new procedurally generated planets, in a kind-of-but-not-really multiplayer setting...  I don't really know enough about the gameplay yet to say for sure how it'll be different.  Art style aside, obviously, it just reminds me of Spore.  I dunno.

I dunno, that Xenogears rpg plus the new Zelda look pretty good. Add to that the standard Marios and Pikmin and to me it's starting to justify a 200 euro console.

Splatoon was the only thing that looked somewhat fun and innovative. Well except for the squid thing... They could have just called it swim or fast travel and it would have been fine.

Somehow they have managed to make the sequel to Xenoblade, one of my favourite games of the last 10 years, look like a dreadful bog-standard anime robot filled pile of nonsense.

Hugely impressive feat and a shame since I was honestly contemplating getting a Wii U just for that game.

Captain Toad levels were the best part of Super Mario 3D World, which was the best thing I played last year. A whole game of those levels sounds great.

They also announced a sequel to Kirby's Canvas Curse, which was one of the best DS games and is the only good Kirby game.

Aside from the Amiibo shit, that was a great showing.

The E3 trailer definitely had more of a Xenogears/Xenosaga feel to it but the gameplay does look like Xenoblade:

When the WiiU hits $150 or less I think I might be on board for smash with the GC adapter. That likely won't happen.

You can get a refurb 32gb model straight from Nintendo for $200. That's close enough I think - and given the recent boost in popularity from MK8 I doubt they'll have refurb inventory much longer.

I'll end up buying one soonish I'm sure for the same reason I've bought the last few systems.  Great local multiplayer games, Mario, Zelda, etc...

I'll bet that this is using the Core i3 4010U (http://ark.intel.com/products/75107/Intel-Core-i3-4010U-Processor-3M-Cache-1_70-GHz) or something very similar - basically a laptop part.  It's the same thing in the i3 Intel NUC mini PCs.

That thing is slow and expensive. It also has horrible PCI-e support. The case they are displaying has enough space for a regular desktop-class CPU and cooler. There's no need for a laptop-style CPU.

You're probably right, though my assumption of laptop part usage was based on the size of the case, which looks to be about 10" wide and 3" tall based on the relative size of the USB ports (assuming the pictures that they've used are accurate).

A 1U server rack case is 1.75-inches tall. That's still tall enough to fit a server-class CPU with a low-profile heat sink and cooler.

About the only interesting thing I've seen out of this E3 was the No Man's Sky stuff. That almost looks awesome enough to want a PS4. Almost.

I have a feeling No Man's Sky will make it to PC.  It might take a year after PS4 launch, but it has all the markings of a PC game.

Evolve looks like it could be cool? Maybe? With really solid balance.

So I downloaded the Battlefield: Hardline beta tonight. This kind of... well, it sucks. It's like Battlefield with less sense and more floatiness.

EDIT: To elaborate, this scenario just doesn't work for the BF mentality. It's like replaying the big fight scene from the end of Heat over and over again, only there's an almost endless supply of criminals as well as cops. The player models are HORRIBAD especially compared to the normal BF ones. They animate badly and the movement feels all janky. I have no idea why they thought this would be a good idea other than seeing GTAV money and thinking "I want some of that."
