I just....this show seems too beautiful to live but the trailer holds so much promise. Title: Re: Galavant(ABC) Post by: Father mike on May 14, 2014, 04:24:51 PM We'll just have to wait and see if it's the next Glee or the next Cop Rock.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: schild on May 14, 2014, 05:15:43 PM I removed the network from the title, who gives a shit?
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: shiznitz on May 15, 2014, 08:38:08 AM Musical? Puh-leeze. *gag*
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: HaemishM on May 15, 2014, 10:02:13 AM Three things.
NO. And What the fuck????? Also, FUCK MUSICALS. Make that four things. NO. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: schild on May 15, 2014, 12:01:54 PM Sir Eric ran away. He bravely ran away.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Cadaverine on May 15, 2014, 05:16:02 PM Vinnie Jones in a song and dance number? :awesome_for_real: It's worth that much, at least.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Lakov_Sanite on May 15, 2014, 07:11:25 PM This isn't JUST a musical, it's musical comedy with peasant killing jokes.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Surlyboi on May 15, 2014, 09:12:44 PM Forget it, let's not go to Camelot. It's a silly place anyway.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Severian on May 16, 2014, 09:35:11 AM I removed the network from the title, who gives a shit? It is definitely relevant, although the branding is obnoxious, because this looks like an attempt at a live-action version of a Disney animation. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Rendakor on May 16, 2014, 09:40:53 AM No other thread has the network in the title; no point unless there are multiple shows with the same name.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Rasix on May 16, 2014, 10:18:30 AM I only made it through a minute of the trailer. Holy hell, that is annoying. This will get cancelled quick.

It is definitely relevant, although the branding is obnoxious, because this looks like an attempt at a live-action version of a Disney animation. How do you get disney out of this? I get that people see singing and immediately tune out but the subject matter seems much more python in tone than anything else. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Ingmar on May 16, 2014, 11:58:40 AM Probably because the composer did a ton of Disney animated movies.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Evildrider on May 16, 2014, 01:25:41 PM Drugs are required for viewing enjoyment.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Lakov_Sanite on May 16, 2014, 01:53:25 PM Probably because the composer did a ton of Disney animated movies. There does seem to be a few Disney names attached to it but it certainly feels less like a "Disney" show and more like a Robin Hood men in tights type deal. I can't write it off yet based on having music, not when it's got a king like that in it. Worst case scenario it's on par with enchanted and is be ok with that. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Severian on May 16, 2014, 02:36:28 PM I had no idea who was involved, my reaction was purely from watching the clip. It just jumped right out at me that this was a Disney animation that wasn't animated. After that I noticed the ABC connection.
It's mainly the the type of humor (physical, character-based, broad, toying with fairytale cliches) in that setting, and adding in musical numbers seals the deal. Plus the villain is over-the-top charismatic and entertaining, also typical. Much more so than what I saw from the hero in the clip, unfortunately. Ideally for this he'd be a Bruce Campbell, but he didn't seem very interesting. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Segoris on May 16, 2014, 06:28:48 PM So this trailer quickly went from a non-funny Men In Tights tv show, to Fuck Yeah! Vinnie Jones is in it, straight to when will this shitty Disney musical end? Although the youtube video did have a link to Black-ish, and that looked funny. So I guess it wasn't all bad visiting that trailer link.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Threash on January 05, 2015, 03:13:27 PM So this turned out to be freaking hilarious.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: jgsugden on January 05, 2015, 03:43:29 PM It was a bit uneven - and for a musical, I didn't walk away singing any of the tunes. I will end up rewatching the first hour when the wife watches it, and don't hate the idea of doing so, but it wasn't amazing. Just ok.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: dd0029 on January 05, 2015, 05:45:57 PM It wasn't a musical Pushing Daisies, but it was generally amusing and that's enough.

I will end up rewatching the first hour when the wife watches it, and don't hate the idea of doing so, but it wasn't amazing. Just ok. I fully agree with all of that. For me, I think my expectations were a bit high going in so that colored it. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Signe on January 05, 2015, 08:24:43 PM Vinnie Jones! OMFG!! The bit I thought was hilarious and made me laugh and snort, was the slomo joust. God, it hurt to breathe.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: MahrinSkel on January 05, 2015, 09:44:28 PM It made me smile a lot and even laugh a couple of times, so I'll count it as good enough. It's just one long series of low-brow jokes, some of them in lyrical form. Monty Python meets Disney is the general feel of it.

God, it hurt to breathe. Yup Vinnie Jones performance is enough to recommend people watch it cause he has been total gold in this thing. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Tebonas on January 08, 2015, 12:51:39 AM I'll have to power through the musical bits because they are really not good performancewise, but the rest I find hilarious. For some reason I completely lost it during the jousting match.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: jgsugden on January 08, 2015, 09:30:17 AM This, so far, seems to be one of those shows that you can really enjoy for the silly thing it is *if* you're willing to overlook the bad mixing on the music, a bit of questionable acting choices, and set design that is far from immersive.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Bunk on January 10, 2015, 12:32:48 AM Vinnie Jones! OMFG!! The bit I thought was hilarious and made me laugh and snort, was the slomo joust. God, it hurt to breathe. Just watched the first two episodes and for whatever reason that scene had me absolutely howling. Haven't laughed that hard in ages. Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Slyfeind on January 15, 2015, 11:09:20 AM I just started watching this, and I love the premise, though the actual jokes are kind of... just serious lines delivered in a comedic way, if that makes sense. It's still fun though, and I'm gonna keep watching.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: kaid on January 15, 2015, 12:10:46 PM vinney jones wins for best knock knock joke ever.
Title: Re: Galavant Post by: Threash on January 19, 2015, 06:14:04 PM Weird Al was mostly wasted but Ricky Gervais was fucking fantastic.
