Title: GOG Spring Insomnia Sale 2014
Post by: Simond on May 12, 2014, 12:38:18 PM
GOG is currently doing one of their "Insomnia" sales - a lot of games at high discount with very limited volumes sold one title at a time.
Don't like the game currently on sale? Wait a couple of minutes and a new one will have taken its place.

Have fun!

Sale's been stuck on Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers for the last hour or so.

It's like a wootoff for shit your mom found in your closet when you went off to college.

Neat.

Wasteland 1 for $1.50 is the first thing I saw that I could imagine anyone sane buying.

I've been checking it periodically, haven't seen anything I've wanted though.

Kudos to GOG for coming up with the most annoying  way to have a sale ever. There's maybe 4 or 5 games in their catalogue I'd like to get but I'm not sitting watching legions of games I'm uninterested in trickle past at a glacial pace on the off-chance.

What's funny is when steam first did flash sales they were bombarded with messages that 4 hours was too short.  Steam listened and realized 8 hours worked well for people as it gave people enough of a chance to not get mad and feel like they missed stuff they wanted.  Gig on the other hand doesn't care apparently because this is the second time at least they have done it.

Supposedly they did a survey and people said they liked it.  However, I never saw the said survey (otherwise I would have noted how retarded it is) so who knows if they even did legit sampling.

Yeah, it seems like it requires more effort than I'm willing to put in (considering the only reason I buy things on sale is to avoid the effort required to earn enough to buy them at full price anyway). I think the reason some people like it is that there are occasionally games given away for free with this sale.  Since they're in limited quantities and drag a lot of eyeballs to the site, it's not a bad deal for GOG, while running a free game deal for 8 hours would probably cost them a lot of sales.

If they had a wishlist feature (they might), if I cared enough to go through their catalog and add things to said wishlist (nope), and if they would then email me when things go on sale (like steam does :oh_i_see:) then this would be cool.

They do have a wishlist, they don't email you when things on it go on sale.

Their business practices, like their games, come from the 1990's.

It actually wasn't too bad. The first round did kinda whoosh through pretty quickly. Rounds 2 and 3 had enough time for each game that if you really wanted the game, you probably were able to get it. I think the only one I missed all three times was the Zork Anthology but frankly, I'm pretty sure I have copies sitting somewhere (just don't know if they still work as they were on floppies).

I snagged The Guild: Gold Edition, Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail, Blade of Darkness, the Betrayal at Krondor pack, VTM: Redemption, and Interstate 76: Arsenal. Everything else I either already had or wasn't interested in at the time.
