Title: Any GOOD dTCGs? Post by: Phunked on February 21, 2014, 08:59:59 PM I've played MtG on and off for the last ~6 years, but the current state of the online client is just frustrating gaming experience, and I don't really have many 3 hour blocks of time left anymore.
I'm in the Hex alpha, but having to bootcamp because there's no Mac client is shitty, and the game is barely functional ATM. Tried Hearthstone. Not a huge fan. It doesn't really have the depth I like, and I hate the level of variance. Any suggestions on a well supported dTCG? Bonus point for being Mac compatible! Edit: I should point out that I enjoy both MtG and Hex, but would really like something with a UI from this century while I wait for CZE to give birth to trading card Jesus. Title: Re: Any GOOD dTCGs? Post by: Rendakor on February 21, 2014, 10:13:29 PM I'd say just wait for Hex. No point in dropping cash on a mediocre game just because you're impatient, particularly since TCGs are not cheap. You could also play the MtG Duel of the Planeswalkers thing, which I hear is decent if restricted in deck building.
Title: Re: Any GOOD dTCGs? Post by: Quinton on February 22, 2014, 12:57:42 AM Sadly, the other dTCG/dCCG stuff I've seen (besides MTGO and HEX) is more in the style of Hearthstone (more streamlined/simplified gameplay, much less depth), but without as much polish.
However, doing some searching, there seem to be a bunch I hadn't heard of: http://ascensiongame.com/ http://www.shadowera.com/ http://orbsccg.com/ http://www.duelofchampions.com/ http://www.faeria.net/ Stuff closer to Hearthstone than Magic -- these are both "lane based": http://solforgegame.com/ https://scrolls.com/ Big list of stuff over here: http://forum.utopianchaos.com/forumz/thread-847.html Title: Re: Any GOOD dTCGs? I've tried a couple of the other ones on that list, but no one has been able to replicate the WoTC formula very effectively :S Title: Re: Any GOOD dTCGs? Post by: Tannhauser on February 22, 2014, 07:15:26 PM I enjoyed Duel of Champions. Polished, bug-free, some interesting cards and gameplay. But I tired of it quickly. It's a lane game btw.

It's a lane game btw. If you don't mind my asking, why did you tired of it? Was there not enough tactical depth? Or...? Title: Re: Any GOOD dTCGs? Post by: Tannhauser on February 23, 2014, 03:10:04 AM The lane gameplay got stale. I got stuck advancing, I would have had to buy more cards to move on. After spending about $30 I figured that was enough. That and I seem not to be a online card player, I have cooled on Hearthstone as well, just my fickle gaming nature maybe.
Still it was fun, the combos are not advanced, but you can still pull of some tricks. I recommend you trying it, it's free and really attractive artwork seals the deal. Title: Re: Any GOOD dTCGs?
