I've been noticing over the last 2 weeks or so that the ratio of Useless News posts to other areas seems rather high. Tonight when I logged in, out of 34 areas with new posts, 13 were from Useless News. I don't mind the occasioanl Useless News item, but this seems like way too much, and it's starting to feel like spam in the inbox.

Is there anyway to disable viewing of certain areas of the forums? I'll search and see, but if anyone could point out how to hide specific forums I'd appreciate it.

We seperated it off to a different forum so that you could just ignore it. I didn't know anyone used that "show unread posts since my last visit" button. Boggles the mind, that. Useless news takes the backseat when a game worthy of everyones discussion comes out. But the first quarter every year is terribly slow - at least until the last week of this month, which happens to be a system launch.

Thanks Schild. I aways use "show unread posts" whenever I visit.  I figured out a workaround -- I just go into the entire Useless News forum first and mark everything as read and then it doesn't show up in my "unread posts" list (duh!).

Apologies I couldn't help you in some other manner. But short of some games Haemish punishes himself with, we tend not to review stuff that just doesn't warrant it. Nor do we go out of our way to bring it up for discussion. As such, Shockeye likes posting useless news. It's just his thing, and it'll die down - like I said - when the PSP (and the slew of other huge titles) comes out in the next couple weeks. Among them - Splinter Cell, Freedom Force, a handful of survival horror stuff - including Cold Fear and Obscure, the new adventure title Still Life (which is supposed to be pretty spectacular), and some other stuff.

You should read some of the useless news though, I get a kick out of at least 65% of it. The other 35% is posted with the express purpose of making me cry. Shockeye is a cruel man.

I do read it from time to time -- I agree, it can be quite amusing and it adds some levity to the community. And thanks for pointing out that it's just a slow time of year for game news/reviews -- I hadn't thought of that.

It amazes me that people complain because they don't have self-control.

People couldn't keep themselves from going into the Den, so we had to close it.

Politics always seems to be on the edge of closure.

Now there's a complaint about Useless News.

I love useless news, and I liked the den too.  Every day at lunch I go through this link (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=index&cid=583) to take the edge off of all the serious catastrophes constantly taking place in the world.

EDIT: And to add content, I'm not sure there is a profile setting or something that allows you to filter out specific forums from being seen. The only way I could see that working is if there was a usergroup that was allowed useless news access and there was one that wasn't, and you were a part of the one that wasn't.
