Not hosting this year, I've hosted the last four straight, so it's off to mom's tomorrow...so I haven't put up any lights or even a tree...as the resident xmas nerd I've already warned the old lady next year I'm going all Danny DeVito with it.

I have to try to convince my not-mother-in-law to accept my old 65" tv as a gift, she's got macular degeneration and the big set is easy on her eyes...but she's a stubborn old girl. Should be interesting.

The first time in 39 years I am sick at christmas, which means cutting the obligatory Family Christmas gatherings to a minimum, but not being able to use that time by sitting at the Computer because then I sweat like a pig and have to lie down again after half an hour. Was in line to check out, grabbing a gift card for a kiddo that I helped by some presents for (local gaming shop called Disc Replay), when I saw a great present for my son. Scooped it up, got it home and wrapped it before he could see it.!

On Christmas Eve, had my parents over before we all went to midnight church services, we opened and I wish I had gotten his smile!

Oh and the wallet has a chain on it  ;D He thinks they are awesome (plus the money in the wallet was pretty nice too), hard to buy for a 17 y.o. but he was really joyful and the rest of us too.

I spent the week in Central California with the wife's extended family. Always a fun time. The highlight of my gifts this year was box of the 11 Doctors mini figures.

Late to the party. Hope everyone had a nice Christmas.

On a related note- does anyone have suggestions for a harmless tranquilizer that could be loaded into a dart and fired into the flank of an over-excited 5 year old? He will be 6 next Christmas (if one of his parents doesn't snuff him first), and was a goddamned NIGHTMARE most of the day. He was so wound up for Christmas he could hardly sleep, and was just an overly emotional little shit every second he wasn't opening a present or actively playing with a new game/toy. I am afraid his impressionable little sister will follow suit in the years to come, and daddy can't deal with it 2x without an incident.

That being said- it is probably as much or more fun being a parent with little kids at Christmas time than it was being a little kid. They are fun to watch, at least when they are not weeping hysterically because you asked them to put their shoes on.

The tranq works great if you inject it into yourself.  Otherwise, no.

Benadryl, but you have to make him swallow it. Also in some kids it'll have the opposite effect (make them even more hyper) so you might want to test it out before Christmas Day first.

Vodka Martinis. Liberally applied to the mommies.

As an alternate to drugging him, we cut ours off from sugar and soda for 2 weeks prior to the holiday at that age. Seemed to work as they were never terrors, just really excited without anything to fuel it.

Gypsies. Just sell them to the Gypsies, and everything is better.

I celebrated my first boxing day ever today.  Sadly, there was not nearly as much boxing as I had always imagined there would be.   :cry:

Was offline yesterday too. Hope whoever celebrated had a happy!

I finally looked up Boxing Day. To me it's always been gift-card/returns/exchanges day, which generally involved boxes of a type, so kinda made sense.

I did make sure the servants got some boxes though. Which I now need to convert into dwellings for the stuffed animals they received which compelled them to unearth the truckloads of others they have. My wife is not amused. The last time I made them cardboard houses, it turned into a sub-development of a baker's dozen. With its own zip code.
