Title: Transcendence Post by: Riggswolfe on December 21, 2013, 10:31:49 AM I didn't see another topic for this. The first trailer released today and it looks really good.

Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: Der Helm on December 21, 2013, 10:13:46 PM it is nice to see Johnny Depp play something different than his Jack Sparrow persona.
Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: schild on December 21, 2013, 10:18:51 PM This is legitimately stupid.
Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: HaemishM on December 22, 2013, 01:18:52 AM It started off well enough but by the end of the trailer, it was just... :uhrr:
Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: Pennilenko on December 22, 2013, 04:15:01 PM This is going to be a amazing as lawnmower man...am I right?
Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: rattran on December 22, 2013, 09:47:34 PM Do Not Want. Science fantasy always seems to make crap films. Ooh computers and Ai and brain scanning = magic!

Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: Tannhauser on December 25, 2013, 08:28:48 AM I can't wait to see this!
Said no one ever. Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: Ghambit on December 26, 2013, 08:26:14 AM It started off well enough but by the end of the trailer, it was just... :uhrr: My thoughts exactly. Took a good premise (and one that has been in quite a few good novels) and morphed it into some actiony pop horror flick. Queue digi-zombies. :uhrr: Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: Lakov_Sanite on December 26, 2013, 09:45:25 AM With a surprise twist at the end when he ascends to godhood and realizes the petty squabbles of the planet are beneath him and leaves us alone.
Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: Teleku on December 26, 2013, 04:33:31 PM I don't know, I thought the trailer was pretty good. Fun concept as always, and nice to see a big screen attempt at it. I'll agree that the second half of the trailer went in a far more extreme direction than I though the initial plot would, but that actually gives it a chance to be even better than standard human mind into a machine bullshit. As with all Hollywood sci-fi, it could be total shit that's nothing like the trailer, but for now I'm looking forward to this.
As always, you assholes are way to jaded. :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: Lakov_Sanite on December 26, 2013, 05:34:41 PM The last good movie depp was in was ten years ago so I can't say I'm expecting much.

As always, you assholes are way to jaded. :awesome_for_real: The problem with most hollywood sci-fi is it's not really sci-fi; it's horror in teh futures. They have pretty splosions and scare you 'n stuff, missing the point of the story entirely. My hypothesis of late has been they do this for copyright reasons, as in the case of this movie, if they explored the standard tropes they'd easily violate quite a few IPs (like Modular Man; which is pretty much exactly the 1st half of this trailer). Dying comp. scientist puts himself into his machine, his also genius wife won't let him die, etc. I would rather explore the how's and the why's of that motif rather then just go all lol-nanite zerg. They'll pay Depp $20m to do this movie, but wont grease the novelist a few pennies, who originally came up with the idea. That's Hollywood. :oh_i_see: Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: HaemishM on December 27, 2013, 09:24:23 AM If the novelist doesn't write the screenplay, he's likely to get at most about $100k out of this unless he's a big name and has sold other rights.
Title: Re: Transcendence Post by: rattran on December 27, 2013, 01:18:50 PM Ideas aren't copywritable, only the expression. You have an idea, great. That and $2.27 will get you a cup of coffee.
