Title: Holiday game sales
Post by: KallDrexx on December 19, 2013, 05:24:05 AM
FYI, Amazon's digital holiday game sale has begun.  If anyone is interested there is a full list of items available with start and end sale dates (http://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/wiki/stores/amazon/holidaysale).

p.s. I betting that Aliens: Colonial Marines isn't worth the $2 price  :why_so_serious:

That EU4 pricing is tempting though.

Is there anything in there worth mentioning that hasn't already been on sale on steam or gog?

It really depends on the game and what you're looking for.  On occasion, Amazon beats Steam and GOG for one or two titles, and sometimes vice-versa.

Speaking of Steam, their Winter sale should start up later today.

Steam sale usually starts around noon EST, and yes it should be today.

EU4 was at the same price ($9.99) in humble bundle store earlier and as a bonus (one with 1.32 multiplier at the time to be exact) it was actually charged in USD instead of the dreadful 1:1 conversion that usually takes place with prices in digital sales when it comes to euro.  :awesome_for_real:

Yeah, but I was eyeing more the extreme pack for $11 that has a few addons.

Steam sale usually starts around noon EST, and yes it should be today.

1pm EST, or 10am PST.

Edit: I would love if someone made a chrome extension that checked your steam wishlist against amazon pricing.

Steam is in ful... uh.. steam.  No voted deals yet and I'm not enthused.

A preorder game for the daily deal is a little lame.

Wow that is stupid. A preorder daily sale?

They've had at least one in the last couple of sales. Given that that is more and more the model for indie game development, it's only going to happen more.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is not an indie title. On the other hand the release date is January 9, a week after the Holiday Sale ends, so it's not like you have to wait that long for the game to be released.

I didn't say it was, just stating that the opportunity to see more games that aren't released yet to go on sale is only increasing.

FYI, An amazon rep on Reddit claims that Amazon is changing their prices to match Steam's daily deal.  The advantage to amazon is every digital purchase you make gives you $5 credit towards an "Editor's Choice sale" in January.

From that link.

Further clarity. you can buy multiple games to get multiple credits, but they don't stack, so, if you buy 10 games in November/December, you'll get 10 $5 credits, but you have to use them on 10 individual purchases, not 1 for $50 off.

Ah, so it's retarded.  Thank you.

Ah didn't see that, that's dumb.

Yeah, if they DO match prices, I may buy stuff from there anyway, because.. why not, but it's not nearly as awesome as I originally thought.

Depends on how much one buys from Amazon.

I'm guessing its not $5 off anything from amazon in the future right?

True.  Since I can't use the $5 credit on soap or pants, my ability to take advantage is limited.

KallDrexx had already stated what it was good on. It's only good towards their "Editor's Choice" stuff in January.

If you stick to just downloads, set up a new account, and enter some US address or other. I've snagged a couple of decent bargains that way.

Here's an Amazon deal which might be of interest if you had your eye on even one of the games (as I have for Crusader Kings II):

Paradox Grand Strategy Pack [Download] (http://www.amazon.com/Paradox-Grand-Strategy-Pack-Download/dp/B00GWTN8K2)  $9.99

  • Crusader Kings II   [Download]
  • Europa Universalis III Complete   [Online Game Code]
  • Hearts of Iron III   [Online Game Code]
  • March of the Eagles   [Download]
  • Sengoku   [Download]
  • Victoria II   [Online Game Code]

Sengoku is apparently the only one with "non-Stream DRM"

The Humble Bundle Store (https://www.humblebundle.com/store) has some discounts too for their holiday sale, including Guacamolee Gold editing for $3.75.

No wish list tie-in, but this site is very good for tracking and comparing all the deals from a dozen online stores at a glance: http://www.cheapshark.com/
Click the Browse (http://www.cheapshark.com/browse) link for great precision.

GOG.com is having a New Year's sale (http://www.gog.com/party2013) right now for the next 22 hours to finish out their Winter sale. Lots of bundle discounts.

Steam seems to have Bioshock Infinite Season Pass for 5 moneys. Probably a mistake so go for it! I did.

Bioshock Infinite itself is at 7.50 today, but I can't bring myself to care for the setting so I guess I'll go with Metro Last Light which is about 10 (both down from the usual 29.99).
