GTAV comes out for PS3 and Xbox 360, and with it comes Grand Theft Auto Online, an online mode that lets you customize a character—hey, you can even play as a woman!—and wander around Los Santos with up to 15 other people. Today's video shows players doing all sorts of missions, buying apartments, and even creating their own scenarios to screw around in.

Wow.

Good on them, that looks brilliant and I'd image all the modes are split/instanced.

Edit: 16 players a set it looks like the limitations of PS3 and 360 are shining there.  I look forward to playing this in 2014 on nextgen/pc.

This looks like fun. I REALLY hope they integrate steam community like Borderlands 2 and Sleeping Dogs (the drop-in of BL2 and the stats tracking of SD).

Well I guess I'm getting this on 360, then.

Sadly, I don't think a PC version has been confirmed yet. I'm holding out for that personally.

I really don't like the announcer they are using for these clips.  They sound like corporate training videos.

My favorite part about this is the 15 player thing.  I really don't want them to try to shoe horn this into an MMO, just let it be a multiplayer sandbox.

They haven't traditionally announced a PC version for GTA until a while after console release. The PC version is generally released 9-12 months later. However, after Red Dead Redemption, I'm askeered. And so very tempted to try to dig up funds for a 360.

I agree with Mal about not making this an mmo. Enough for a decent private server sized funhouse seems more correct. Hopefully with some vs missions (cops vs robbers!).

My understanding is, they host the sever, capped at 16 users and you are matched intelligently, as in, friends first. More details should be out later today.

Its not an 'announcement' per se, but during the recent Nvidia Earnings Call (http://seekingalpha.com/article/1621562-nvidias-ceo-discusses-f2q-2014-results-earnings-call-transcript) GTA V was specifically mentioned as an upcoming release for PC (unless I'm misreading things).

Yet sales of specialty PCs like gaming systems and work stations continue to grow. The disparity reflects how consumers use these different classes of PCs. Many consumers look for PC as a general purpose device they can use for browsing, email, social media video. But much of this can be better served by a tablet. In contrast, gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin's Creed IV.

Yeah, Nvidia said later they had no idea.

Quote
'This statement was made with the intent of expressing enthusiasm for the games industry in general, and was not intended to represent specific knowledge possessed by Nvidia,' a company spokesperson told bit-tech when pressed for clarification regarding Evenden's comment. 'Nvidia does not have information on any possible PC version release of Grand Theft Auto or its availability. We deeply regret the error.'
