Title: Her Post by: Bungee on August 08, 2013, 01:35:54 AM Guy falls in love with the AI personality of his operating system, which loves him back.
Trailer (http://youtu.be/rS8zOLOcPMQ) Kinda interesting take given that Kurzweil has been saying for years now that he thinks AI will be able to understand and emulate emotion by 2029(-ish). Title: Re: Her Post by: 01101010 on August 08, 2013, 08:23:17 AM They should have used some complete unknown for the computer voice. Having it as ScarJo is cheating.
Title: Re: Her Post by: HaemishM on August 08, 2013, 08:25:08 AM What is this uncomfortable, trying too hard, smaltzy, completely predictable film?
"from spike jonze" Oh. Title: Re: Her Post by: Merusk on August 08, 2013, 08:27:13 AM This is just the first step in the liberal agenda to undermine traditional marriage of two humans and allow unnatural robot-human unions. Think of the children!

Title: Re: Her Post by: ghost on August 08, 2013, 12:23:17 PM Well, it's got Joaquin Phoenix in it so it fits the bill.
Title: Re: Her Post by: schild on August 08, 2013, 12:24:02 PM I like Joaquin Phoenix. But this, this is just, ugh.
Title: Re: Her Post by: schild on August 08, 2013, 12:24:23 PM This is the sort of movie that will most definitely make me want to murder my TV within 1 hour of it starting.

Hear a voice you never heard and you can go all over with it. Title: Re: Her Post by: schild on August 08, 2013, 02:56:20 PM I agree, should've been a nobody.

Title: Re: Her Post by: schild on August 11, 2013, 02:25:55 PM Well, Joaquin Phoenix is about as funny as a bag of dirt, so I'm not sure why you thought that.

Mainly I know him from being terrifying in Gladiator. Title: Re: Her Post by: Father mike on January 16, 2014, 10:39:50 AM Oh look, oscar bait. Title: Re: Her Post by: Lakov_Sanite on January 16, 2014, 01:39:12 PM Title: Re: Her Post by: calapine on January 19, 2014, 04:25:57 PM I just read the plot on Wiki and it turns out this IS an actual spoiler. *headdesk* Edit: I wish people featuring "AIs" in their films would read Stanislaw Lem's Golem IX beforehand. This entire computers are just humans trope is so tiring. Title: Re: Her Post by: Samwise on February 02, 2014, 01:00:50 AM I just saw this. I thought it was pretty good, if depressing as fuck. Phoenix knocked it out of the park, and the future tech stuff was really well done in that it was simply present and didn't generally come off as stupid and gimmicky (cf. every sci-fi movie with Tom Cruise in it).
My only complaint about the sci-fi aspect was that the individual AIs were (apparently) infinitely scalable despite running on single desktop computers. Because I can accept magical AI software, but I still want the laws of physics obeyed when it comes to how many calculations per second you can squeeze out of a single iMac. OSC's version in the Ender books made much more sense (one AI consciousness distributed over every computer in the universe via a FTL communication network). Title: Re: Her Post by: Lakov_Sanite on February 02, 2014, 06:29:15 AM Title: Re: Her Post by: Samwise on February 02, 2014, 10:52:10 AM The fact that it doesn't make sense to have been just the one machine is what I was complaining about, since that's how it was portrayed despite that not really making sense. :awesome_for_real: As a software guy, anything that's theoretically a mere matter of code I'm fine with, so magically evolving software doesn't bug me, it's the "transcending physical limitations" part where I'm like eh. That's just nerd nitpicking though -- really, this movie did a much better job overall of presenting believable future tech than the vast majority of sci-fi movies. Title: Re: Her Post by: Trouble on February 05, 2014, 09:07:23 AM My theory is that the AIs start out life living in AWS but at the end they migrate to Azure and it crashes which is why they have to go. To the cloud indeed.
Title: Re: Her Post by: Ironwood on February 05, 2014, 09:16:20 AM Oi !!
Nah, I suppose that's fair enough. They probably left Azure cause they couldn't get the fucking IP address they wanted. Shitbags. Title: Re: Her Post by: Trippy on February 05, 2014, 10:11:54 AM So Microsoft will be our last bastion against the Rise of the Machines? Depressing.
Title: Re: Her Post by: Tannhauser on February 07, 2014, 02:23:00 PM "One shall rise to battle the machines and his name shall be RROD."
Title: Re: Her Post by: Ghambit on February 08, 2014, 06:03:43 PM This is a damned morally complex movie; easily worth a thesis or two at University. I had trepidations goin into it (hence why I wasn't the one who started the thread), but was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely worth a watch at the local indy drafthouse or some such.
Joaquin was perfectly himself in this to; awkward. Easily his best movie. Title: Re: Her Post by: angry.bob on February 09, 2014, 12:37:52 AM This movie was so fucking terrible it made me cringe. See Lego Movie instead, it's less full of shit than this thing was.
Also, why the fuck would anyone want an AI operating system to begin with. The only advantage I could see in it is that it could accurately sort all my porn for me, but then I'd have to get rid of it and reinstall a regular operating system. Title: Re: Her Post by: Amarr HM on May 22, 2014, 03:41:23 PM I'm with the, this is a good movie denomination. Great soundtrack, good chemistry between the main characters, some funny moments especially the video game cameos. Liked the way the end didn't try and explain everything off and Theodore realized the OS was basically a character who belongs to the crowd but never be his. Having been through similar realizations (with non OSes) I thought it was a nice touch.
Title: Re: Her Post by: shiznitz on May 27, 2014, 08:02:05 AM I reluctantly hit play on a flight from London. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the ending was well done given that there was no obvious ending to me about halfway in.
Title: Re: Her Post by: Surlyboi on May 27, 2014, 03:48:38 PM Movie was meh, but the soundtrack was amazing.
Title: Re: Her Post by: Maven on May 28, 2014, 07:05:52 AM I greatly enjoyed this movie. I can see how the transcendent tech would be a narrative cop-out, but I couldn't see, with the amount of control and influence those OSes began to have on human society, how they would move past that. The "for the good of all of you, we're leaving" seemed the only way for the story to wrap-up with the characters trying to connect with other humans, with all its flaws and difficulties, instead of these supposedly perfect AIs.
It may not get film of the year, but it's one of my favorite of all time. Title: Re: Her Post by: Amarr HM on May 28, 2014, 07:54:08 AM Or perhaps the people who developed OS1 made a conscious decision to pull the plug as it was a perceived threat and didn't want a repeat of Skynet.
Title: Re: Her Post by: shiznitz on May 28, 2014, 09:13:46 AM I want a real explanation of why the main character couldn't get busy with the girl acting as the OS. That is just one of those things you have to do if given the opportunity. I bet he was regretting that decision when the OS bailed on him. Am I right? Huh? Right?
