Title: New wii owner advice? Post by: Salamok on July 11, 2013, 04:34:16 PM So my 6 year old really wanted a wii so i caved in for her bday. Can anyone think of games I might enjoy (zelda/donkey kong/Mario kart)? Or should I just stick with the ps3?
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Rendakor on July 11, 2013, 05:21:42 PM What sort of games are you into? Muramasa: Demon Blade and Xenoblade Chronicles are two non-Mario games that spring to mind as excellent Wii titles.
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Salamok on July 11, 2013, 06:06:38 PM I like arcade, arpg and some strategy. I dont think I have done a console shooter since duck hunt, so i might be interested in a decent shooter (even on rails) but I do have a move so maybe the ps3 might be better for that.
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Hawkbit on July 11, 2013, 07:23:08 PM I really enjoyed Chocobo's Dungeon for Wii. It plays a bit like a rouge-like in that it randomly generates the dungeons, but it's also like a FFV kinda game with jobs.
Xenoblade is one of the best JRPGs in the last decade. The Zelda game was okay, but didn't hook me due to the controls and aged graphics. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Rasix on July 11, 2013, 07:38:13 PM No More Heroes
Probably my favorite game for the Wii. Really depends on how much suda51 insanity you can take. Don't play this around the kid. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Malakili on July 11, 2013, 07:56:14 PM As a long time Zelda player, I couldn't play Twilight Princess with the waggle crap at all.
Good games: Super Mario Galaxy (if you liked Mario 64) New Super Mario Bros: Fun side scroller Mario (+ pretty decent co-op if you like that). New DK Country: see New Super Mario Bros, but with DK. Also, grab a classic controller and embrace the virtual console, lots of good stuff in there. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Nayr on July 11, 2013, 08:16:43 PM Zelda and Fire Emblem are obvious must-plays.
Also don't forget that Wii plays Gamecube games, so Twilight Princess can be played with the GC disc if you don't like the motion controls. Gamecube games I'd recommend are Zelda obviously(Wind Waker, Collector's Edition, Four Swords), as well as Evolution Worlds, Skies of Arcadia Legends, and Harvest Moon games. The Wii is also the easiest console to softmod if you're into the whole Homebrew thing. You can do things like cheat codes and make the console play DVDs(a feature that should have been there in the first place, but wasn't), among other things. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Ard on July 11, 2013, 08:29:29 PM Don't bother looking too hard for Xenoblade, it's out of print, and goes for more than it retailed for currently.
I'm going to second chocobo's dungeon, it's cute and interesting. Little King's Story was also interesting. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Job601 on July 12, 2013, 12:08:33 PM Since you like shooters, you should get the Metroid Prime Trilogy. All three games are good, they play great with the wii pointing controls, and it was a great deal when it was released (I have no idea what it goes for now.) I can't recommend Metroid: Other M. Skyward Sword was much better than Twilight Princess, in tone, graphics, controls, everything.
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Ard on July 12, 2013, 12:32:22 PM Metroid Prime Trilogy is another one that sells for significantly more used than it retailed for. Too many good games on the Wii got massively short runs.
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Salamok on July 12, 2013, 01:04:13 PM Seems to me like old school HotD on rails would be perfect for the wii as a mindless shooter...
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Rendakor on July 12, 2013, 05:56:22 PM There are a couple HotD games on the Wii; can't speak to their quality since I'm not into rail shooters. There are also a few RE rail shooters.
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Yegolev on July 12, 2013, 09:09:10 PM Monster Hunter Tri?
EDIT: Boom Blox is tremendous fun. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Maledict on July 13, 2013, 04:05:12 AM Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition.
It's literally one of the best games ever made, and the Wii version is the best version available. If you like JRPGs then Baiten Kaitos on the GameCube was surprisingly good. If it's a new enough Wii, it no longer has GC backwards compatibility. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? House of the Dead: Overkill is great fun, but it's very short (a playthrough takes just an hour or two). For me it has best worked as a co-op party game, with it's B-movie style and humor it's best enjoyed while slightly intoxicated :) Also, IIRC about every second word of the dialog is "fuck".Some time ago they released an improved (extended?) version for PS3+Move though, so you might want to get that instead. I have both but have only played the Wii version so far. Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Amarr HM on July 13, 2013, 02:39:34 PM I really enjoyed playing Mario Kart online.
Title: Re: New wii owner advice? Post by: Salamok on July 14, 2013, 08:33:19 AM What is the best gun to use?
edit: I was tempted by "Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Magnum/Knife Bundle" when I saw it but something tells me it might be better to have a gun that holds both controllers like the resident evil blaster does. edit2: I did buy Mario Kart as I have been wanting a driving game that allows for multi-player on the same console, only played it a bit, fun so far.
