Title: Atlus' parent company under fraud investigation? Post by: Fabricated on June 13, 2013, 07:33:56 AM http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2013/06/12-1/atlus-parent-company-index-corporation-under-fraud-investigation
Quote Japan's NHK is reporting that Index Corporation, parent company of video game developer Atlus, has had its corporate offices raided as well as the residency of the company chairman on Wednesday after an initial investigation by the Japanese Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission concluded that company staff had committed fraudulent business transactions between it and various companies to maintain the illusion of stability for the conglomerate itself, by inflating video and mobile game sales numbers to levels far above their actual quantity sold in a business practice called "window dressing", or round-trip transactions. More in the actual article. Well, that sucks. Title: Re: Atlus under fraud investigation? Post by: Paelos on June 13, 2013, 07:56:41 AM Yikes. That's...wow, people can end up going to jail for that.
Title: Re: Atlus under fraud investigation? Post by: Yegolev on June 13, 2013, 09:26:34 AM Sheesh, not Atlus. They brought me so many good times.
Title: Re: Atlus under fraud investigation? Post by: Goreschach on June 13, 2013, 09:36:07 AM Sheesh, not Atlus. They brought me so many good times. Not Atlus, their parent company. This could cause delays for them, but I doubt it means much will happen. Even if Index goes belly up, holdings like Atlus usually get purchased by some big publisher when the parent dies. Title: Re: Atlus under fraud investigation? Post by: schild on June 13, 2013, 09:38:33 AM but but shin megami tensei and person :(

Title: Re: Atlus' parent company under fraud investigation? Post by: Fabricated on June 13, 2013, 10:19:44 AM Updated the title. My bad on that; wasn't trying to make it sound worse than it is. Not great news all the same.
Title: Re: Atlus' parent company under fraud investigation? Post by: Yegolev on June 13, 2013, 11:16:52 AM Unless Atlus can stand up on its own, I foresee bad things. Maybe even if they can, depending on the business acumen.
Title: Re: Atlus' parent company under fraud investigation? Post by: Fabricated on June 13, 2013, 11:19:55 AM Well someone could always swoop in and buy them out. If that's good or bad depends entirely on who does however.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=605566 Quote https://www.release.tdnet.info/inbs/...0627078929.pdf This is the official press release sent out announcing their civil restructuring. There's a lot of legal speak in it, but further down one of the important sections is their outlook for the situation. It states that the game division is clearly the most desirable and functional part of Index's business, and that's one area they plan on expanding on specifically. They will seek out and select a sponsor as soon as possible to conduct a business transfer before the situation further damages the value of this core business. Sounds like they're looking for a partner or a straight buy-out. Title: Re: Atlus' parent company under fraud investigation?
