How's PvP?

pvp occurs in instances that pop once an hour. You click the ready and hope you get in. click fast. Then it's zerg vs zerg standoff. Stray too far and get focused. It was boring. As a defender I could get contribution points by taking damage. So I'd charge the line, do an aoe or two before I died, respawn to do it again.

Played the game for a while waiting for swtor expansion. Boring grinder with the t&a it's only redeeming feature, that is if you like mostly naked girls.

I just looked at that trailer,  never even having heard of this game, and it looks as if it's all girls.  Is it?  Do only pervy men play and ERP each other?  (I only heard of "ERP" the other day on Tera.  People kept saying it and I googled but google didn't help me.  I actually had to ask.  Did we have that acronym in the olden days?

Awful. Decent progression and mechanically its not the worst but the BG's and personal scoring are fucking stupid in design and incentives. There's also a high level zone that is pvp enabled but its mostly run and gun ganks except that there are also quests in the zone designed to lead to pvp and those are nifty but at the end of the day the whole game is trash. Class balance is bad. Gear is a million times more important than skill etc.

Honestly the best thing going for it is the translation and story, swear to god not at all the worst I've seen in MMO's. I know more about the story of Scarlet Blade than Tera, but it could be the gameplay was so boring and the npc's had such nice tits that I stopped and read/listened to what they had to say in Scarlet Blade unlike any other MMO ever.

So far I have this:  You were ERP'ing a Nightelf girl and her husband, an Big Cow or an Ogre or something walked in on you, right?  I'm just guessing at races.  I want to know more.

For now. The original game is out of Korea, and they are introducing the first male character.

General chat is suprisingly business as usual. For all that some reviewers are making this game out to be, it's pretty much (IME) WoW or Rift or SWTOR, only with jiggling boobies and ridiculous animu fanservice fashions.

Make sure you role Royal Guard on Valk. You want to roll:

-Medic, if you want to feel wanted, the way the game is set up every group of five is best served to have 2 medics so there are never ever enough of them for anything.
-Defender, if you want to be a giant amazon who gets high scores in BG's no matter how hard you suck. Also skillset most suited for the types of pvp there are.
-Whipper, aoe bombs, best pve class.

You can go Sent or Punisher but they really aren't that good. The loli is probably a little stronger since she gets more aoe and I think her abilities cost less sp.

They are awkwardly implemented in that you can't really customize your controls for them effectively but they are one of the better parts of the game. You have a third bar (CP) that you spend to use the mech which gives you a handful of powerful abilities or you can spend CP in pvp to activate your pvp armor which gives you a bunch of bonuses versus other players.

Ok, I realize this is utter bullshit crafted around titty mechs but...

From what I've got out of the lore and text is that the Arkana, the characters, are bioengineered warriors created to save humanity from the evil alien dudes who were invading. Only the female body was compatible with the bullshittium treatment, so they're all women. The reistance failed, but a cache of the warriors were hidden away to reclaim the earth after the invaders got bored and left.
The invaders got bored and left, and now the underground humans are sending out the Arkana to reclaim the twisted earth, full of strange monsters mutated from the aliens.
When they went active, the Arkana discovered that they had powers that even their designers didn't realize. Called Chakra power, they can do magic shit. Now, some of the Arkana went rogue (The 'evil' faction) so each 'loyal' Arkana is assigned a Commander (The player) to monitor them and make sure they don't get out of hand.

Now, this next stuff is partly my own interpretation, but so far the game fiction is bearing it out.
The Arkana aren't thought to be really human, and humanity has gotten downright sexist and assholish in order to survive. So they dress the Arkana up in ridiculous costumes because they can, because it's titilating, and because they want to remind them that they're not fully human. They exist to serve humanity, not be human. So between the sexism, humiliation, and the way the Chakra magic works (Sexily, of course) we get titty bondage mechs.

I have probably become too fascinated with this game, but I'm not above being a pervy nerdman. Plus I'm playing it ironically.  :awesome_for_real:

As I said way upthread I couldn't tell if the huge well animated tits on the npc's kept me reading the text or the joy of taking a break from the bland horrible gameplay kept me reading the text but damn if I couldn't trick myself into thinking something similar. Its certainly better storyline than Rift and Tera.

I love how the heal spell fluff text says it "Toggles your Aegis Cannon to heal mode." So I figure I press that button and then shoot my teammates. But it's just fluff text, and that button is the heal spell.  :uhrr:

Not to mention that not having to actually LOOT stuff seems to speed shit up immensely.  And the auto-walk to objective feature is kind of neat.

As for the story. they got incredibly lazy as the two factions with opposing views have the exact same story.  Find and replace one faction name with the other and that's it. Same story, same quests, same zones.

I'm taking a stab in the dark here, but given the content I think they wouldve used a font like wing dings but called wing dongs if they could've.  Just sayin, I don't think story was a top priority.

Actually you start out with boring underwear. The first armor set is pretty pervy, but later upgrades actually start putting clothes on.

The underwear thing is you unlock your starter lingerie, to upgrade frillies with better stats, but you still want to wear your armor over it for stats.

This game could be a lot more pandering. For example, the box of Arkana Pleasures is simply a random powerup. *HO HUM*

Second Life beats the fuck out of Scarlet Blade for creepy.

I dunno, I gave it a few minutes last night, and it seemed pretty spot on.  Kind of refreshing in a weird way, to find an MMO that doesn't hide this stuff, just puts it all out there to see, like looking at a glass watch or something.

As was mentioned above, you aren't actually playing as a hot chick, you're playing as a Commander who's remote controlling a hot chick from the safety of his armchair somewhere.  Somewhat like the player in real life, you might cynically note.  And the hot chick has conversations with you, the player, where she talks about how she's slowly coming to like you despite how creepily you keep staring at her ass and so on, so maybe if you play just a biiiiit longer, she might really like you... just a little bit longer...

IIRC the first character you talk to after character creation tells you that your first mission will showcase your skills as a Commander, "skills which the Arkana are biologically predisposed to notice".  So, yes.  While in real life, having long conversations with women about your high level Orc Warlock is going to end with you sitting across from an empty chair, in this game, that kind of talk gets the girls all wet and panting.  They just can't help themselves.  If only you were better at this game, you might have a girlfriend like this!

Only for monsters over level 10, I'm pretty sure.  Unless they changed it since I read that.

I know i have gotten exp for things near my level at aroun 15 or so, so it does give exp for kills.  I think just the newbie area does not, so as to give you incentive to move along instead of sitting around killing quest mobs needed for the heavily on rails beginner experience.

I've been running DM and BC. Apparently in order to upgrade your gear, you have to get gem shards and as you upgrade, the odds of actually failing and losing a level of upgrading increase.
Of course, there are item you can buy to increase the odds of a sucessful upgrade.  :oh_i_see:

I have a rare gammasbane gloves on my Punisher. I did the first 3 levels of upgrades with base stardust slivers. No cash yet.
For the next level of upgrades, I bought some Narak relics, which increase your chances of a sucessful upgrade, because the odds start going down.
I've now got +5 gloves, at a cost of $10.  :oh_i_see:
And if you fail an upgrade, the bonus starts going down. So you want to buy safeguards from the shop to prevent that from happening.

Man, you can broadcast sucessful upgrades, and from the trade chat, there's a lot of people dumping a lot of real money into upgrading items.
Makes the lingerie unsealer look positivley wholesome.

Well, I'm into SB for 30 bucks right now. That's less than a box and sub so far. I have the mats to take that set of gloves up to +7 or +8, but I don't want to blast the real money into it.  :uhrr:

I did it a few times to see how the cash money affects the game. I think I can deal with not getting a +10 on my rare gloves.
But goddamn, I was tempted to buy more AP and upgrade them further.

As a medic, the gameplay sucks bad.
It's just horrible. I ran with a friend and I spent half the time just altenating between launching one attack and healing her everytime heal cooldown is up. There's just no middle ground in dungeons.
Outside dungeons, gameplay is just.....bland.

I'm just surprised at how good some places look though, it's a case of pretty graphics, shit gameplay.

I dunno. It seems odd to call out Scarlet Blade for boring gameplay, when 99.9% of the MMORPGs out there are exactly the same.
They just don't have jiggling tit physics.

Not sure if you played GW2 before. I like how the combat flows, played it for a good half a year before dropping it. It's just more fun even in instances, instead of the Lineage 2 style of grinding mobs where the mob HP keeps going up and up and up.

Signe, in truth the in game lore did explain that the Arkanas are basically super bio soldiers that follows the order of their commanders who directs and warches their every move from behind the screen. And yes quest dialogs did enforce the notion that you two are working together. Amazingly, the writing works. No translation issues.

How the hell would that work?  They would have to re-do like 95% of their quest dialogue and pretty much ALL of the voice acted bits they have, because pretty much none of the dialogue or over the top innuendo works properly if you imagine your avatar to be a buffed beefcake adonis, instead of a barely dressed bimbo.  Also, I have to wonder what the reaction of that quest hub guy with the harem of sex kittens would be when the first male arkana shows up on his door.

Well, I'm mildly disappointed in knowing the answer to how scantily clad bishie boy is going to be, and judging from the character creation you have the armor choice of Cyber-Ninja or Cyber-Knight :heartbreak: Of more interesting note is the choice of yummy-undies: Nice & Tight Speedos with (Ugh...) mild tribal tats, or something closer to nineteenth-century Victorian Beachwear.

It would be hilarious if they left the quest dialogue intact and just dropped a male Arkana in there.
I imagine they'll redo the quest text and voiceovers. Hell, the American version is capped at level 29, while the Korean version is at 44, so there's a lot of content still being localized, and the male Arkana isn't even out in Korea yet. So it's a ways off.

Any~hoo, gotta say that after 24 levels of playing the Amazon Tank with improved Lung Capacity (by request I mean, since for some reason my reasonably clothed* Gun-Loli with non-high heeled combat boots was deemed 'not a proper fit' for the party, not that I'm still bitter about the fact *grumble*) it definitely comes off as at least a mechanically sound, grind-happy MMO that is at least getting more than half an ass in localization due to how decently the writing was translated. As much as I'd rather not, I must definitely give them some credit for that as a cheap cash in would have probably done the trick as well.

That said, grind-happy MMO is still too grind-happy for my tastes, even if Bishie boy is showing up in future.

There's a difference between an internet forum and a public venue, IMO.  That's why we talk about this shit here and not IRL, or at least why I do.  I mean, start having a conversation on the bus about murdering people in CoD and watch how uncomfortable other people get.  MMOs in particular are not exactly chick magnets, it seems kind of odd to play the "hey guys, this kind of talk is a bit creepy" card when you're talking about a hobby where everyone is by default already assumed by society to be some unholy cross breed of the Simpsons comic book guy and a sea cow.

That's sort of the role of places like this forum, to be able to talk about super nerdy shit with anonymous internet ghosts whose opinion of you is completely irrelevant to your life.  Nobody's going to walk in to work with a pink slip because their boss thinks they're a psycho, they're not scaring away women who they'd otherwise have a chance with, it's just random talk with people who ultimately don't really matter to them.

The Sentinel was given addtional coverings when they localized the game.

I've seen... the lvl 25 Shadow Walker armor (I think that's the one) and it covers up the Arkana neck to boots.

Ah, the extra undies. How this seems to be an issue with some people across the internets, I don't know nor am I going to try, but seeing the armor given at lv15 or so without those extra hexagons is more than a little creepy considering the game's perspective. So yeah, that works. 

As for my previous comment on the armor... err, rather the lack thereof for the most part, I do stand more than a little corrected after a more level-headed look into the game. It was definitely fueled more by the mind-blowing WTF!-ness of the Defender getting glorified high-tech nipple armor as her second set, and seeing the starter sets for the Shadow-Walker & Whipper didn't exactly start out with much of a clothing budget. Punisher seems to get better coverings as time goes on, and I noticed that the Medic seems to get a fully-buttoned up grey military jacket with red armband.

.... Gotta say I'm more than a little curious to see if that one makes it across without alteration.

Genuinely surprised to hear this.  I suppose smaller MMOs go bust (tee hee) all the time and we just never hear about it, it's just I kind of assumed that these types of titles were designed to be slow burning, low maintenance autopilot affairs.  Shutting one down to me always seems like some kind of catastrophic "abandon ship" kind of disaster must have occurred.  Looking through their catalog like 95% of Aeria's stuff looks like this so I guess it must be working for them, though.

I think its actually just rebooted elsewhere, I believe it shut down because of issues where they couldn't even manage to port content over to the translated version or something.
