TRENTON, New Jersey (AP) -- Animal rights activists are disgusted by a new candy from Kraft Foods Inc. that's shaped like critters run over by cars -- complete with tire treads.

The fruity-flavored Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy -- in shapes of partly flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels -- fosters cruelty toward animals, according to the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

"It sends the wrong message to children, that it's OK to harm animals. And that's the wrong message, especially from a so-called wholesome corporation like Kraft," said society spokesman Matthew Stanton.

The society is considering petition drives, boycotts and letter-writing campaigns to get the candy pulled from the market, Stanton said.

After receiving a complaint from the NJSPCA Wednesday, Kraft officials pulled an animated advertisement from Trolli's Web site that featured car headlights and animals.

No other decisions on changes have been made, said Kraft spokesman Larry Baumann.

"If you look across the Gummi category we certainly have many products that are offbeat, and that's what we were doing in this case," Baumann said. "We didn't mean to offend anyone."

LOL! Those are great.

Animal rights activists need to go play in traffic with their furry and feathered friends.

Road kill is cruelty to animals?

You mean to say that if I am driving in my car and a squirrel runs under my wheels I should be guilty of a crime?

In other news, they're suing WB for teaching children that it's fun to throw furry animals off cliffs:

They should protest this by playing in traffic.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Kraft Foods Inc. said Friday it would bow to demands by the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NJSPCA) that it stop selling candies shaped like animals that have been run over by cars.

The group publicly demanded removal of Road Kill candy, sold under Kraft's Trolli Gummi brand, earlier this week.

"This is not sending the right message to kids," NJSPCA spokesman Matthew Stanton said.

Kraft (Research) said it wanted to be sensitive to consumer concerns about the candies, which are shaped like flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels with track marks on their bodies. They were introduced last summer.

"We understand how this product could be misinterpreted, and we respect that point of view," Trolli Brand Manager Jim Low said in a statement.

Trolli, whose products also include octopus- and worm-shaped candies, is one of several confectionery brands Kraft has agreed to sell to chewing gum maker Wm Wrigley Jr. Co. (Research) That deal, valued at $1.48 billion, also includes Kraft's Altoids and Life Savers brands.

The one where the kid was dreaming he was driving a vette, drove by his school, various driving stunts happen, he jumps something and a girl jumps the other direction driving a silver one and winks at him. Cute commercial.

The ad police said it was encouraging kids to take their parents car and do insane things with it.

Unfortunately, these companys won't grow backbones and tell them to fuck off.  A candy is not going to encourage someone to go run over animals, just like the 6,345,255 packs of candy cigarettes I ate didn't make me want to smoke. In fact, I'm still a non smoker. So uh, what the fuck?

I like the gummi road kill. I'd buy pallets of it if I could. I think the Vette commercial was great. I'm sure there are others, but none come to mind immediately.

Basically I'm all in favor of ripping off the warning labels and watching half the population die overnight.
