Title: Final Fantasy Creator joins Microsoft
Post by: schild on February 25, 2005, 01:33:41 AM
Holy shit?

Quote from: Slashdot
" Microsoft today announced that Hironobu Sakaguchi, video game legend and president of Mistwalker game studio, has joined with Microsoft(R) Game Studios to develop role-playing game (RPG) video games exclusively for the next- generation Xbox(R) video game platform. Sakaguchi is best known as the creator of the "Final Fantasy" franchise, which has sold more than 60 million units worldwide, and was executive vice president in charge of game development at Square Enix Co. Ltd. until February 2001."

To say the least, yay? It seemed like Squeenix has been stifling interesting creations lately and their innovation has been crap. I hope Sakaguchi starts thinking originally again.

Edit: I should elaborate. Much like Raph's position, VP probably didn't let him do what he enjoys doing - creating art in video game form. So, we're back to what I said before the edit - let's hope for innovation.

Final Fantasy 1-6. Producer or something a rather on VII and VIII. Then VP of Square.

In other words. He made the good ones and stepped back when they turned to shit. If there was someone to get from Squeenix, it was this guy.

I really do hope he manages to pull out something original.  I truely enjoyed some of the FF games, and would love to see something in that fashion on the xbox-next.

Wait, what is the xbox-next?

What kind of massive head injury does it take to sign on for the sequel to a console that didn't make money until Halo 2?

Don't be an Xbox Hater.

Yeah, because Microsoft is in danger of going insolvent due to low profit margins on X-Box hardware and therefore working for them would be very risky.

What was the point of mentioning Microsofts hardware sell-through strategy in a post about a guy who writes software?
