It's been almost a year since we kicked the last one off so here it is at last, the seventh season of f13 Bloodbowl. Now with added Chaos Edition.

Please read the following rules and then be sure to sign up by posting below. if you know people who might miss this thread please spam them with it until they finally relent and sign up.

The league will start in mid February. YOU MUST SIGN UP BY FEB 10th.

Teams

You may enter a team of any race from either the Chaos Edition or Legendary Editions of the game.

If your team played its most recent match in any main f13 season (including playoffs and failoffs) or is a brand new team with no games played then it will automatically be accepted.
If your team played its most recent match in any other f13 league including gimmick leagues, feeder league etc then it will automatically be accepted as long as it meets the following requirements:

• Max TV of 1400. This includes cash reserves (on a 1k gold to 1 TV basis) and injured players.
• Minimum of 11 players on the roster (including injured players)

If your team has played in non f13 leagues then it must meet the above restrictions and will be vetted by me. I reserve the right to refuse signups that appear to have been farmed. This might mean that your entirely legit team with super lucky stat-ups gets unfairly rejected. C'est la vie.

You must post in this thread to sign up. Your post must include:

• Your team name, race, TV and cash reserves
• Your Steam name
• Your BB Coach name

You must join the f13 Bloodbowlers (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/f13bb) Steam group.

When the League Starts

The league will take the format of a championship tournament with a playoff and a failoff knockout competition after the main season.

Every player will play each other player in his or her division once.

The top players from each division will advance to the playoffs to battle for ULTIMATE GLORY

The bottom players from each division will be sent to a failoff gulag to bicker over who sucks the least.

The number of divisions and the number of players in each will be determined once signups are final and we know how many players we have.

In the event that we have more than 32 signups, existing f13 players will get priority with players from more recent seasons having a higher priority than players from older seasons. Beyond that I will devise some method for winnowing out the unworthy.

Each league day will last for 9 calendar days. Players are expected to arrange and play their games within this timeframe.

If a game hasn't been played by the deadline but has been scheduled then at my sole discretion I may extend the deadline. If a game hasn't been played and doesn't have a definite date scheduled or if it was scheduled for after the deadline and didn't happen then I will award a 0-0 draw.

Please do not wait until the last minute to schedule your games. Posting that you'll look out for each other on Steam does not constitute scheduling a game. Contact each other through the Steam group, make definite plans and post them here if they are likely to be close to or past the deadline.

The winner of each match must upload the results to BBManager. In a draw, either coach may do it as long as someone does. Matches that have not been uploaded will not be validated.

This lets other players download your games and replay them as well as letting us do all kinds of nifty stats analysis for each game and the league as a whole.

I don't think I would characterize lizards or ogres as 'bash' teams myself, despite high STR. They're more midrange in terms of overall capabilities.

It looks likely I will be playing Necromantic by the way. I will have a final answer by Saturday, there's still an outside chance I could go with pro elves, I think I've ruled out orcs and dwarves just for the sake of league variety.

Frenzy fuck-ups are the BEST fuck ups. You get to go "oh wait ... oh GOD DAMMIT" so much more often with those.

My ladies are at 1720 TV although due to injuries I can only field a 1420 team for the next match. In the bank, we have 840k gold. Also, Fun Factor boostin my TV by 70? Really?

Ingmar, your interpretation as a lay person was correct.

Everyone: Please remember to add your Steam ID and BB Coach name to your signup posts - even if you played before and even if your various nom de plumes are all identical. It will make it easier for new people to figure out who is who.

After seeing the TV values of the signed up teams, I've decided to withdraw and let the big boys play instead.

Don't be afeared of the TV differences. There are a lot of new/low TV teams as well and even if you do get drawn against a high TV team, you'll get a lot of toys to use against them to even the playing field dramatically.

It's not as big a deal as it sounds - you generally lose because of the other player's skill* rather than because of their team value.


*Or because the RNG hates you but that too is Bloodbowl.

Seriously RK, do not give up because of that. If it helps convincing you, I'll step forward and abandon my old team to start with a new one. I just hate when people are interested but are turned off by differences in experience. Seriously, lots of people started with fresh teams and did amazingly against all kinds of TV. Blood Bowl does a good job at helping the less experienced team. In fact, you shouldn't worry too much about the TV difference, but in the experience of the player behind those teams. Meaning, a noob could have a 3000 TV team and lose anyway.

Bottom line, please reconsider. You may eventually lose all your games, but that won't be due to TV differences. And I stand by my word, if it helps getting more players I'll start with a new team.

That being said, I've been out in the first round of Failoffs in consecutive seasons and stand by the fact that my team will boost your TV (if we're in the same division) thanks to squishy little snotlings.

I started season 6 with a fresh skaven team (and ended it with tv below 1000 but that's just bad luck) and while I didn't make it to playoffs I did manage to win some games  :grin:

You play Ogres, so it doesn't count. You only have like, 1/2 a functioning team at any given time.

Don't drop out 'cause you're a new team. Inducements really do help make up the difference. Plus! If you're a new, low TV team, you have the chance to upset one of the grown up teams in a spectacular way and break everyone's head!

Yeah, the TV thing is illusory. I mean it. I was totally in the same boat when I began playing and I adamantly refused to believe that TV trumped anything else, but the inducements you get, if spent wisely, really do make up the ground. Don't be scared by it.

Someone should pick Underworld so all three of the new teams are represented.  Note, however, I just played an Underworld feeder game vs. Ingmar's Pro Elves and it was awful.  They seem kinda rough to start, unless it was user error on my part.

In fact a few people here will lose matches precisely because their TV is too high.

TV is not a big deal. Inducements work. Having played 100+ games as a coach does matter, but you won't get over that without playing some blood bowl. The overall winner is likely to be one of Ruvaldt, Ingmar, Llyse, Megrim, or Drogg but there are plenty of terrible players here you'll be competitive against.

Absolutely.  A wizard can end a scoring drive cold.  Also older teams often carry players with injuries, and while they have skills that add to the TV of the team, they may not contribute enough to warrant those additional TV points.  Teams that have been around a while also have a bloated TV from fan factor, which helps with Fame and can swing the balance in kick off events, but generally is not worth the TV it adds.  I would have gladly traded all of my TV from fan factor for a bench during the playoffs last season because I only had 11 players and just could not afford giving up more TV for another beastman.

Also, it looks like a lot of our veteran coaches are playing new teams this year.  If anything, even if TV worries you, this should be the perfect season to join.

It occurs to me there is no mention in the original announcement that the turns are set to 2 minutes.  So, new people, play fast in your warmups.  Two minutes 4 LIF.

We have had a notable lack of dark elves for quite a while.  It is strange considering they make up three of six of the championship teams...of course, they were also all Andydavo teams.   I am especially sad to see a lack of Chaos.  Paelos, where are you?  Someone has to take up the Chaos banner.

After seeing those figures I am actually tempted to enter with a Dark Elf team instead.

The new Khorne team technically qualifies as Chaos, doesn't it  ;D

I considered playing Dark Elves but honestly I think their roster is frankly a bit overpowered and I want to win my first championship with something else.  :wink:

After spending 900 inducement cash on a chef, Morg, and wizard, I wouldn't make assumptions on who is losing TV.

If the draft is the same as previous seasons, the veteran teams get spread out between the divisions anyway. Or its based on win rates or something, which is relatively synonymous with TV anyway.

It was based on f13 rankings, which is determined by the performance of the coaches with regards to wins, championships, etc.  TV did not factor into it.

And it works fine that way.  We have always had good seeding, I think.

We do need to update the f13 rankings though.  They have not been updated for two seasons now.  I am still ranked 15th.    :awesome_for_real:

I would be willing to dedicate some time to updating the ranking, but I'd need a recap of last season, without having to wade through all the posts that are formatted slightly different from my own messy standards. What I need is each team's placement in the divisions, and what round of the playoff each team got to.

But yes, I could just share the formula too. Problem with sharing the formula is that it will just spring a chorus of "WHAT! THAT SYSTEM IS RIDICULOUS! IT SHOULD BE CHANGED LIKE THIS AND THAT!" and I hate not having control. Haha.

That 7th place in Horde Season 6 is misleading because you still did well enough to get a wild card berth in the playoffs.  In Season 5 I think you played Khemri so...yeah.

Hey, the Khemri were awesome!   They just kept dying.  My human team from last season is actually in pretty good shape now after a horrendous start, but the daemons are really fun with all the frenzying, so I can't help choosing them.

By the way, if no-one steps up, I will be taking Falc's lead and offering a prize of one game off their Steam wishlist to this season's winner.

I'm interested in playing again.  However, my PC is still somewhere between the US and Poland, and I have no idea when it will arrive.  May be next week, but might be another 2 to 3 weeks.

Because Falc will be travelling between the 14th and the 28th I'm minded to start the season slightly early to accommodate that. If we kick off on the 12th, that means the first day will end on the 21st and the second on the 2nd March, giving him two days at either end to get his matches in. If starting on the 12th is going to be a problem for anyone then please say.

Still hmming about my team. The thought of having a full halfling team with all the trimmings at 1000 tv is attractive, but I know its probably better to go with the wood elves for elf bullshit.

If you go Halflings you don't want them to be 1000 TV, you want them to be 650 or so max. That way you are guaranteed to be fielding three treemen per match (your two plus the mercenary one) and probably Morg as well as a wizard and a chef.

Fire any Halflings who level up unless they get doubles or stat-ups. Just keep one with the Kick skill. Level 2 Halflings add the same TV as an Elf so they will bloat your roster massively.

Yeah, what IainC said.  'Flings aren't meant to be a powerhouse team.  Only settle for doubles, always ensure you can buy the Treeman Star Player and Halfling Chef, and never leave a 'fling in a tackle zone.

f13 Ranking update coming in a few hours.

If serious about halflings :

9x Halfling
2x Treeman
1x Reroll

Once your first match is set you can buy an extra halfling if you are playing a high TV team. You'll want to stick with 9 if paired against a 990tv or less side so you can still afford a chef and the tree star player.

You are basically playing as inducements so your TV has to stay below about 700.

You don't need an apothecary since you don't care about your players (maybe in a division of 1400+TV teams you can rethink this if you also have a level 3 treeman somehow). You don't need more than one reroll as you will always have the chef, again maybe you can take a second if your division is all high TV - but this season I think every division will start out with a couple of sub 1200 teams.

Stat ups : take Kick on one 'fling, and maybe you can justify Guard on a double, or +AGI. You should probably fire all other level 2 'flings, but if you get attached to one you could give him diving tackle or sidestep or something. On the Trees you can take break tackle I guess, or block on a double, fire any tree that doesn't have block by level 3 (HAHAHA your tree won't reach level 3). Don't take STR on 'flings (too expensive) or trees (wtf do you need STR 7 for?), don't take AGI or MV on a tree either.


Always buy a chef (100k), almost always buy Deeproot Strongbranch, most games you can also afford Morg or Zara.


Most of all, don't expect to win and play knowing that even a draw will be a mortifying embarrassment to whomever you are playing.

PS. Also, read the rules on throwing players.

PPS Don't play halflings. It is not going to make you hate the game less.

14 bash-ish teams (and that's if you include the Lizard players) I think, at a rough count. So about a 1/3, tipping slightly higher. Sounds about right if you take into account the bash/dash/mash break-up of teams in the game. It'll be curious to see how the whole thing pans out, what with all the new teams pouring in.

Is it too late to change my team? I would be exchanging the Norse for another race, but it would still be a brand new (unless I manage to get some feeder league matches going) team.
Only, in my first feeder league match I sustained two deaths (one was rerolled to -1MA for a blitzer) and two "misses next game", so I'm pretty gimped at the moment.
If it's not OK to switch races, I'll just re-purchase my Norse team as it was before the Massacre..

I think it'll be fine to switch teams up to the last minute as long as they meet the original requirements in the first post.

Your only problems is getting them into the Feeder league for those critical early games prior applying for Season 7.

Do you count underworld and goblins and chaos dwarves as bash? Because they all can be but aren't necessarily. Plus, like Norse, they also have a lot of fragile players too. So do lizards.

It's only when you're up against dwarves, chaos, etc without claw that you're really worried.

Ok, my computer has arrived in Poland, and it somehow survived without having all the parts stolen or being shattered into little buts during transit.  Applied for the league with my trusty wood elves.

Since I'm a total newcomer and still quite hopeless at the game, I'm quite willing to cede my place in the tournament to more seasoned players, such as Teleku here.  8-)

Woops, I missed the post saying we hit the limit already.  While I only delayed applying this long because my PC was in transit for over 3 weeks, I really don't want to be a dick and knock somebody else out.   :|

No dickery involved, really. It might even help me, as I'm having trouble finding people to play with in the feeder league, seeing as I, due to work and small children, have a rather narrow window of opportunity for online play.

What I'm getting at is, I might not be able to succesfully schedule the matches required to partake. In that case, I'd rather someone else take my place, someone who can actually devote the time necessary to play regularly in a proper league.

I'm going to leave signups open until the cutoff even though we have 32 players already. If anyone else signs up then I'll come up with a way of apportioning the available slots with the players we have. As mentioned, existing f13 players and players from earlier main seasons will have priority but I don't want to discourage new blood from joining in either.

If there is anyone who isn't 100% convinced that they want to play then mention it and if I have to decide who misses the league then that will make my task somewhat easier.

Then consider this post as my withdrawal from the league. Family issues dictate that my time spent actually playing on the computer is sporadic at best, and I don't want anyone more dedicated losing out because of me.
My work hours should change before a possible 8th season, so maybe I'll be able to dedicate the time required by then.

I'll do the seeding video but now Falc is gone for two weeks so we can't do the early start to accommodate his travel. I had a quick chat with him and he'll forfeit his first game and try to arrange the second one while he's away.
