Title: [BBC] Growing up Poor
Post by: K9 on January 18, 2013, 11:57:59 AM
I watched the first one of these on iPlayer and thought it was really well done. It is a documentary about teenagers living in poverty in the UK, and they seemed to do a very good job of offering up an honest portrayal without coming across as patronising. Bits of it were really fucking depressing though, and gave me a lot of perspective on how fortunate I am. It's worth watching I'd say, the people they follow are all pretty interesting in their own way, and there are some lessons to be learned here.

EP 1: Girls (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01pvbp3/Growing_up_Poor_Girls/)
EP 2: Lads (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01pybfc/Growing_up_Poor_Lads/)

The Economist seemed to like it too (http://www.economist.com/blogs/blighty/2013/01/bbcs-growing-up-poor)

Just watched the lads episode, don't think you can catch the girls one anymore. That was pretty interesting and pretty damn bleak.
